I just learned from Kurt Karch, 69 H/O advisor for the Hurst/Olds Club of America, that the current DuPont 69 H/O Firefrost Gold formula base/clear formulation is no longer made. Two of the ingredients, transox yellow and moss green pearl, are dropped from their materials list.

Just passing this along.

PPG 5090 may still be able to be made, which looks pretty close.

They usually give you formulas to make tints to those specs. They usually used a diffrent product. Same w/ppg. If you call their color library they will set you up w/ what you need. I went through the same thing when I got my paint. I had to make like 5 diffrent calls to get the correct color in an updated formula.

Dupont stopped making lacquer , and when the did they tossed all the mix formulas for the older cars . No cross over to anything they offer . I was told to match it to something in their color chart , or look else where , by Dupont .

I know with ppg they gave me the code to the updated formula. I actually think I have the sheets they sent my shop I'll have to dig in my tool box and see.

just talked to the local paint shop and they have plenty of moss green and trans ox.yellow...said only the 1008s moss green is dis-continued not the 890j trans.ox yellow??... i was hoping to find formulas in orig lacquer and 1 stage enamel

We had paint mixed to match the Gold in the "H/O 455" hood scoop decal and it looks perfect!

The reason these products were dropped was due to EPA regulations on HAPS....the formula will exist, but with a replacement toner....

You're lucky you had a formula that worked. Most colors don't match worth a damn anyway. If you try to paint a 68 using the "original" PPG Scarlet formula you get something that looks closer to Mary Kay pink than red. I had the painter get a scan of the underside of the trunk and then tweaked it until it was correct. He painted half the underside of my trunk lid four times until both sides matched.

Hi all. Getting ready to do repaint of Demmer # 204. I see that the (standard) firefrost gold recipe has agents in it that are no longer available. Has a new standard been determined ? Sure would like to know if its out there. This is the last time I will be painting this car. Thanks

If you can't get the DuPont formula ingredients, then you may have some success with a paint shop that uses PPG products. Check PPG 5090. Can't recall who's car it was, but they got theirs repainted with #5090 and when I matched my DuPont test color square up to it, it was extremely close match.

The gold on the hood scoop decals was completely different than the body paint gold. Do not use that as a guide for the body gold. The decals were screen printed and had a paper-like base to them according to a decal company I had investigate an original number I had carefully peeled off the scoop. They said they hadn't done decals like that in YEARS and it would be incredibly expensive to reproduce as the methods/materials were leap-years ahead of the dinosaur decals.

They manufactured the original gold formula in lacquer under 5196LO. I talked to a zillion people at DuPont when I was doing research on this and ended up talking to an old guy in DuPont's paint archive department and the original formula card pulls up, but guess what? The ingredient list is blank. No other information. He said EPA was responsible for that.

(If you need the Cameo white, it is DuPont code 5033L [WA3967]). If you go with PPG stuff the white is listed under #2058.

if you need some of the dupont moss green pearl and yellow transoxide powder i have some, if you know the grams of each needed let me know and i can check... these 2 tints are not being made anymore but are still available

This is what I got from the DuPont/Demmer tag team when DuPont resurrected the paint in a base/clear ChromaPremier about 18 years ago. It's for a pint.

100s is 186.0 what is the weight (grams ??) of these numbers?

I was able to locate all the components locally and had my paint shop spray a swatch for me,but I am still not sure it's a close m match. I took to the swatch to the Olds museum to match up with the Bagelys 69 Hurst on display it did not match up. The paint on there car was darker,maybe do to original age ?. I was wondering if anyone may have a sample I can compare to. I sure like the firefrost gold that was put on the west coast convertible car. Here is the picture of the swatch.P_20160403_102400.jpg

Here is the PPG paint used on my car back in 2007. Have not seen this color mentioned as a viable option. Looked very close compared to other H/O's through the years.

A quick heads up that PPG 5090 is not a viable option. Had a half pint mixed and it is an olive color.
