We want to use VHT flat aluminum and Vht clear coat. My question is do you spray the aluminum first,then do the curing process and then repeat the process with the clear coat -or- spray both paints and then do the curing process once. Sorry long question

 

I know with regular base /clear thats how it"s done you paint your base color the let it dry for a bit usually 10 minutes or 5 then apply your clear let it get tacky about 5 minutes then bake.

 

Let us know how this works out for you. I have always, due to the heat, just went silver or in most cases black.

 

It's been years since I've painted headers but every high temp paint I've used always burned off. Is the paint better now?

 

I use VHT black and never tried any clear coat. One good thing about black is that if you want to touch it up later (and yuou eventually will want to), you will mask other nearby stuff but still might get some overspray, and black on black undercarriage won't show.

 

I've used barbque or cast iron stove paint because it touches up easily!

 

Thanks, we will try to do it this weekend and take some pics. We decided on aluminum so they stand out more. I think we will spray both and then cure them with directions on can. Thanks again!
