Question 54 Super 88 Tutone paint

We're going to paint our 54 Super 88 2-door sedan in the deluxe tutone paint scheme. I have 2 questions. Does anyone know a source for the lower rear quarter panel trim that separates the two colors just forward of the rear bumper? And, how far into the door jambs does the upper color go?

Pictures would be most helpful. If you have pics of properly painted door jambs, please post.

Thank you!

Welcome to the site Rocket331! I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted thread asking for the trim you need. I doubt it's being repop'ed so you'll likely have to find someone with a parts car. A couple months ago I picked up a project car that's too nice to part, but here's the thread with pictures. I know there's some other 1954's on the site, but if nobody comes up with pictures of the door jam by next weekend I'll snap some for you. John

I have included a couple pictures of the moldings I think you are referring to. I was fortunate they were on a parts car my friend bought. We originally got the car for the power steering and brakes but were fortunate when the moldings were on it. The convertible was originally a solid color so it did not have these moldings. From what I have been told by a very good source, they were a mid year introduction. What most people do is change the color right inder the backup light. I don't know if the factory ever did this or not. I am not sure what you are talking about on the color in the door jams. The hockey stick molding separates the color and does not go to the door. The jams would be the color of the front of the car. By the way, if you need a set of hockey stick moldings for you two door sedan, I believe I have a set. They are shorter than the hardtop and convertible. I would like to see pictures of you car. I love the 54.

Thank you!

2blu442, I'm afraid your door jambs won't be of much help as the hardtop like yours is different than the 2 dr sedan we have. But, thanks for taking the time and good luck with your 54 project.

RedOlds, those are indeed the mouldings I was referring to. And, our color scheme is the same as the convert! I see your wheels are painted blue. I like that look. I might sneak ours in for blue paint, too, even though every historical bit I've seen would indicate they should be white. Thanks again for the close-ups of the molding. It gives me something to go on.

I was very lucky finding those moldings on the parts car. I will say they are going to be very difficult if not close to impossible to find. As you look at many of the two-tone cars, you will see the color change under the backup light with no molding. That is about the only choice if you don't have the moldings. You are corrct in that the wheels shoudl be white. I think the blue looks better and really sets the Fiesta wheel covers off. The paint is PPG Delstar acrylic enamel. The colors are supposed to be Capri Blue and Polar White. The only code I can get off the blue can is DAR13211 called Horizon Blue and the white is DAR90096 and is called Plaza White. The acrylic enamel gives a sheen closer to what the car was originally. It was lightly color sanded and buffed. Hope this helps.
