re-painting 455

So Ive decided to re-paint my 455 block before I put it in. Im not totally happy with the blue the engine builder used, I feel its too light and non-metallic. I ordered the Olds blue met. spray from Bill Hirsch, can I just paint right ontop of the other paint? Do I need to do any prep and should I worry about any peeling in the future?
Thanks, Rob

good choice looks more like a pontiac blue to me than olds. I would scuff it with a pad and clean it up real good to get rid of the oil and grease that may be left over I would paint the pulley black also .

I have used Bill Hirsch blue on my SX and although very smooth and durable, it is too silvery a blue, like Pontiac blue. I have just bought the Olds blue from Eastwood and it is the correct shade. The part number is 51683.

Thanks for the input, but the B.H. blue is already ordered. Some think its a good match, I hope Im not dissapointed. Since I am doing a rest-mod Im not too concerned with an exact match, I just love the early 70s blue and it is a 71 455 block. Thanks, Rob
