QUestions for the paint pros here. I have a set of SSII''s and Thortons Argent wheel paint. Steel is bare and clean.
Can anyone advise me on what primer I should use, do I need to seal it afterwards prior to applying the argent topcoat.
Backside of the wheels I'll be painting semigloss black.
I repainted my original SSII's decades ago with paint from Greg Rollins (rest his soul). Cant remember what steps I did they have held up well.
New wheels have chrome hoops and have been widened and made into 15's

About three years ago I had the wheels on my 75 Hurst sandblasted and then I painted them before I had the new tires mounted. I sprayed them with a rattle can of epoxy primer. I think I bought it from Amazon. It is the two part that you have to activate and use right after you activate it. I bought two cans but one was enough to cover the wheels nicely. Then I sprayed them with single stage acrylic enamel with the hardener in it. They turned out very nice and have held up well.
The last set of wheels I painted were 15” SSIII that I stripped to bare metal. I bought cans of spray primer at a local automotive paint store and didn’t realize until after the wheels were painted that some were etching primer and others were regular primer. 10+ years later the wheels look the same, so apparently it didn’t matter which primer was used. The top coat was acrylic enamel, with nothing on top of it.

I had blasted a set of steel wheels for my driver. I scuffed them and painted them four coats duplicolor spray primer all over (front, back, inside tire). Then, I painted the front and back Duplicolor Universal Silver four coats and did not care about overspray into the pressurized area as it was primed there.
I am about to take those rims off the truck, 60k+ miles later, parking outside, after 8 years or so. The wheels are starting to get rust through the paint now. Doing this to an indoor parked car getting 10% the miles should last 20 years.
