How much paint
How much paint
I am getting closer to the final paint stage. Im going to hit it with sealer than with a base coat clear coat.
I am doing the entire car, door jams, full trunk etc. Its a hard top. My question is how many gallons of base will be needed thinking 3 max coats. My base is 1 to1 ratio
so it will give me 2 gallons. The paint code is 11 cameo white. Im using ppg for paint the car is a 1972 hurst olds hard top

Definitely need to know what car.. are you using PPG shopline or PPG deltron? Deltron costs 3 times plus what shop line costs but definitely covers in less coats. Shopline, depending on the color can take anywhere from 3-6 coats to cover. I am doing a 66 442, shopline. I bought 1 gallon and 2 quarts of base because I will be doing some practice on a fender to get my technique correct. It’s a metallic so I am nervous about it no doubt. Better to much paint than not enough

you definitely have enough. What clear are you using?

Yes, ppg shopline metallic base, doing jams and and all yes.. ppg dcu2021 clear
1 gallon of base should be all you need, even with shooting the jambs and trunk underside. Just chose a sealer that's close to the color, in your case, white or light grey. Now clear, probably need a gallon and a quart. Not including reducers and hardener.
Thanks for the input!! Think ill have leftover base with just 1 gallon? Or should i buy an extra qt an mix them together and then keep whats left ?
I would typically use 3 rts quarts on the exterior of a car that size and then another 2 to do the jambs. 8 sprayable quarts should do the job with enough left over to hit the whole exterior again. But if you are unsure, just make sure to use a white sealer. I spray a lot of Nason on budget jobs and I can pretty much get away with one good coat of base over white sealer, but always use 2. Very rarely 3 on more transparent pearl colors.
In your original post you said it’s cameo white, but in another comment you mentioned it’s a metallic color. I’m confused. Either way it should be enough, but white base over white sealer can be done with far less paint than a metallic color.
