1970 Oldsmobile Aspen Green 45 - up2date color code?
I'm rebuilding a 1973 Oldsmobile Omega here in Austria, Europe.
As paint jail is next, I'm hunting for a color code of 1970 Oldsmobile Aspen green 45. Does anyone have a up2date color code for Sikkens or any other brand available? I haven't found any Apsen green car around to let my mate from the paint shop match the color.
Will go on this with black vinyl top
pic for reference stolen from a other topic on CO.
When lower VOC paints were mandated, the paint manufacturers had to change formulations. This change required different color pigments too. The manufacturers didn't go back to create formulations with new pigments to match colors that used older pigments. Therefore, older paints can no longer be mixed from a formula.
The only way to match old colors is to have a color sample, which can be scanned. After scanning, a color expert evaluates the color compared to the sample, and then tweaks the formula if required to get a good match.

I’ve been painting for 26 years and I’ve never heard that. I have color books going back to the 30s and can put the code in my computer and pull the formula up and mix any of them.
Let me know if you don’t get it sorted. I own a paint shop and have access to a lot of color resources.
this would be great and very much appreciated!
If you find a minute and would be able to have 1970 Oldsmobile Aspen Green 45 converted into a Sikkens or Standox brand color code will be a great help for us.
While we're on the subject: How many states/counties have gone to water based and/or Low VOC paints other than California? VC455 you're in Texas so I assume them, too?

I mis-stated originally. There were growing requirements to limit VOC emissions; California was in the vanguard, as you stated. Automotive paint was not specifically targeted. The paint manufacturers were not required to change formulations, they did so voluntarily in the face of the advancing VOC emission restrictions, so they could keep selling in California.
The new pigments/formulas only applied to manufacturers' new paints, they didn't figure out equivalent mixes for older colors. Automotive paint manufacturers stopped producing the older formulas.
Those with access to old pigments and old ingredients can mix older colors, as ijasond said.
Texas didn't mandate low-VOC paint. Texas does have rules limiting VOC emission from paint processes.
Looks like they did a very good job. Did you just now get around to posting the result or did they actually take 3 years to get it done?
I don't want to speak for OP but you might want to check out his build thread. It's an amazing restoration that included pretty much everything.....and a paint job.
