Paint gun needles??

Hi guys, yesterday I sprayed some 2 part (2k) primer on my old truck. It was Acme brand from Napa. I used a " professional" Harbor Freight paint gun. I really don't know what I am doing... Anyway I don't think the paint went on as well as it should. It went on dry. I got it done but later I plan to paint single stage enamel and I am sure if it went on as this primer did it would look flat and dry. I am going to study up a little on this but I seem to remember that you can get different size needles or orifices for different type paints? Is that true? Also I took apart this brand new gun as the instructions said to do, to clean it ,etc and I noticed this needle fits quite tight in it's hole, almost so tight that in not sure if it moves at all when the paint volume **** is let out. There is a spring in there that will push it in but I'm wondering what is suposta push it out? Air pressure? and if this needle is too tight will it just stay were it is no matter how much the valve is opened?? Thank you for your help. Greg.

Hi Greg. Call me and we'll set up a time when you could come down here with your spray gun and I can help you sort it out. ~BOB

Depending on the gun, you will need to change the fluid tip and air cap, depending on the material you are shooting. Primer, especially high-build primer, needs a larger tip and air cap. Typically primers use around a 1.8 or so tip. Base coat wants about a 1.4 tip. Clear wants a 1.3.

I've used those cheap HF ($10) gravity feed spray guns for years, make sure and spray thinner through them thoroughly before use. They work great for primers etc. Like stated previously a 1.8 fluid tip works best for the thicker high build primers though, I believe them come with a 1.4, it will be marked on the cap. Harrison hey, small world, we've had a cabin on Blue Gill lake since '78. Many good memories up there, beautiful area, wish I lived there year round.

That would be great! Yep it appears that this gun comes w a 1.3 nozzle/needle. HF doesn't carry any replacements. I see nozzles/needles on amazon and eBay but I think I need to find out what name brand of quality gun this HF china one is copied from then maybe I can order some needles. It says it compares to a Devilbiss 15572, which so far I haven't found

I have a SATA Jet 3000 which is a very good gun, but I also purchase another gun from TCP Global which in my opinion is on par with my Sata at a fraction of the cost https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-1-3mm-H...wAAOSwuMxdFWeV. I was really amazed how the gun performed.

Back when I painted for a living 30+ years ago I used a Devilbiss JGA siphon feed, that thing layed the paint down nice. Still have/use it today, but a lot more overspray/waste than the HVLP gravity feed guns.

My mom, bless her heart, has kept the cabin for all the grand kids, great grand kids to enjoy/have life time memories since my dad passed in '86. I haven't been up there in a few years and she is at the point where she needs to make some decisions. Sure wish i had it (life) to do over again, the things i would have done different....

Well, sure enough HF doesn't "have a source" for different fluid nozzles/needles for this gun I bought. Not knowing what I needed I just went in and bought the "better"- as in more expensive- gun at about $70.00 instead of $30.00. Now I have used the gun and saw how it sprayed the 2 part epoxy primer way too dry. I called the HF Tech line and asked about it and no dice... no nozzles/needles available. I will keep this HF gun and use it for the color later. I bought another really cheapy China gun on eBay that comes with 3 sets of fluid nozzles for $30.00 shipped to use for the epoxy primer and the hi build primer, which I still need to do a lot of. It looks like the same one I bought from HF. We'll see when it gets here. Thanks for all the help guys.

i guess its a matter of you get what you pay for. I used the hf gun to spray the rust bullit (from summit) on the frame for my 65,worked ok for that. im going to get a better gun for the final color on the body.used to use old develbis and binks siphon guns with good luck. but the overspray and waste adds up to extra work and cost
