Paint It, Black

Anyone know correct (PPG) black paint codes for a '66, for the frame/firewall/underside-of-hood/fenders? Or are they all the same (satin) black?

The correct answer/color is Lansing Gray. If you look @ an unrestored Lansing built car,the parts in question have a gray tint to them. I know a guy who mixes his own paint to get the desired color but I used GM Reconditioning Paint on my car. The frame was done differently,we mixed up some industrial enamel with hardener & flattening agent to get a 50/60% gloss finish. I have seen PPG DP 90 primer used for frame paint. Curt Anderson was the one who coined the term Lansing Gray for the paint used on the radiator support/inner fenders etc.

So is the "GM Reconditioning Paint" close to the original color that you saw on your inner fenders, etc.?

The guy who just painted my Vista Cruiser (looks great, by the way) suggested PPG Chassis Black for the frame. Anyone ever use that?

No,Lansing Gray has to be mixed to the desired tone. I said I use the GM paint because it looks nice, has a good sheen that looks original. It very easy to use, shoot it straight out of the can,no thinner required. If you want Lansing Gray, you will have to mix it,nobody supplies it.
