Black convertible with white stripes and interior. White top or black?

I have a 1970 Cutlass Supreme convertible. Black with pearl white interior and pearl white w30 hood and side stripes. I'm doing the top soon and I keep going back and forth. What do to guys think black top or white?

Does the body & stripe color combo match the cowl tag ? If yes then I'd stay consistant with what the cowl tag has for the top's color. If not, I like a white top with darker color cars.

X2 on what Blackpage said... I would put a white top to make the white stripes really stand out

I like the black top. Plus the black always seems to be easier to maintain.

Go with the cowl, but, if you had to choose, a white top is like white shoes. Hard as hell to keep clean, and looks a wee bit frui-taaay.

Car was born a baby blue Cutlass with no stripes and darker blue interior and top. It's never going to be original again.

Either would look good, but black is so much easier to keep clean. BTW, nice car!

Ditto on the black top. It looks great either way, but I know from experience that the black top is so much easier to keep nice-looking than the white top would be.

I think both look good because it is such a nice car. If you are driving the car in hot weather with the top up, the white will be much cooler inside.

I say White top. If it's not original anyway why not make it a more unusual combination that will get more attention IMO.

Just to clarify the pictures are just for reference. My car has pearl white stripes to match the pearl interior. Both cars pictured have plain white stripes. My car also has silver SS II's if that matters. I'm leaning toward black because of the maintence and because my stripes and interior are pearl white. If the stripes and interior were white I would probably go with white. Thanks for the input so far though.

Normally the boot for the top is the same color as the interior. What color boot are you planning. Was looking at the picture trying to imagine what the car would look like with white or black boot. That might give you some idea about the top. Nice looking car anyhow.

I like the looks of the white top. But as the owner of one, they are a bitch to keep clean.

Actually I bought a house and the car has been put on hold. Hoping to get back at it this spring. Just to reiterate the pictures posted are not my car. My car is black with pearl white stripes, interior, boot and SS 2 wheels. It seems most of the guys I've asked prefer the black top and most girls the white. I'm leaning towards black because of the ease of maintenance and my stripes and interior are pearl. Another option would be to go with an off white that is closer in color to the pearl. Thanks for the opinions. If I ever do get a new top installed I will update this thread.

That's a tuff one.

I like the black top but the white top really makes the stripes pop.

So I guess I'll vote for white.

If it's non-A/C car and you live in a sunny/hot area, go white !

My vote is BLACK, I wouldn't worry about black being to hot because if its hot the top should be down!

I can tell you from experience that with no A/C on a 100F day, full sun, and stuck in traffic, the top goes up!

I would do black and keep the pearl boot. I have white interior and boot with black top. When I drive 99% of the time the top is down so I only see the top in the garage!

With the pearl interior, I'd tend to go with white, although with the black paint, it's really 50/50.

The '64 Dynamic 88 I'm supposed to be getting from my father, eventually, is white with a dark green interior. It originally had a white top but presently has a black one. I've never liked the black top on that car and will go back to white whenever I replace it. Of course, I've got to actually gain possession of the car first.

I go with the original blue top - make it really different. Just kidding

My top is white - it isn't that hard to keep clean. I like both black on black and the white. FYI I bet the pearl stripes look awesome but as reference the stripes in 70 were white. So my car has white stripes, pearl interior, a slightly off-white top and the boot is pearl as well (body is Twilight)

My white top was starting to look dingy so I had it re-dyed....now it's like new.....only about $100. My point is if you like white you don't have to live with a dingy top until it wears out and needs to be replaced.

Black

it looks natural with the black. If you put white it may not match perfect.

Love your car by the way.
