Matching color in BCCC

Ive had a few discussions with people about BCCC and matching color to code. Can a base coat clear coat paint be matched exactly to one of our old cars for example: 1970 Astro blue?
When it comes time to paint my car I want a BCCC because of the shine, durability and depth. Ive been told a BCCC will never match and Im having a hard time understanding? Could someone custom mix a base coat clear coat to match?
I know when I painted a car years a go I asked for the Viking blue (I think code 26?) They had a formula in Sherwin Williams. I bought it and applied it but it was darker than the Viking blue we all know. It was beautiful but just not a color match.

I think you've posted a question that relies on a lot of variables and expectations. What does exactly mean?

Color Sample or code and its conversion to today's materials.
Available pigments and solvents today vs. yesteryear.
Color of base primer.
Guy or girl mixing it on what ever system they're using.

Its possible.

I think it comes down to expectations of the owner and painter for the over all paint job. As an owner I"d like a couple or three or four spray samples from the actual products to decide.

I really like Viking Blue.

The painter took a part of the car that didn't have sun fade and had it machine matched, then his buddy behind the counter tweaked the color a bit.

I was surprised that it was darker than I was accustomed to seeing. However, when the painter showed me the unfaded part, the color looked perfect to my eye.

This was done in BCCC about 2 years ago.
