KBS Paint for Frame???

I'm considering using a product called Rust Seal from KBS Coatings for my frame off restoration. Looking for some feed back from anyone that has used it.

I've used KBS products. I've been very happy with the results.

I like Eastwood paints.

They have the right sheen like the factory.

Thats a good point. You can topcoat the Rust Seal with anything you want. Eastwood Chassis Black, KBS Blacktop, etc.

Thanks guys for the feedback. My painter said he switched to the KBS product along time ago and is sold on it.

As I recall, when I spoke with the KBS sales engineer he indicated their product should be top coated. I imagine that is to shield it from UV. You may wish to confirm that.

Briane, I did read that on their website. I'll ask my painter if that's what he typically does. Maybe it's not an issue since it's under the car????

Yes, UV will degrade it pretty quickly just like POR 15. I think most people put a top coat on it just for extra piece of mind, but the stuff underneath and in the dark recesses are fine. For example, the part of the frame you can see hanging just below the rocker panels… top coat it.

I used their product for an home exterior project and I did not top coat. It did break down after a couple of years sun exposure--essentially started to flake. Even though the vehicle underside is largely shadowed you may want to top coat it all.

Anyone have experience with KBS Rust Seal over a factory painted frame? The frame I'm thinking of painting to preserve it still has the vast majority of its factory paint. Thanks!
