Frame Preparation

I received a quote today of $0.60 cents per pound to have the frame on my 67 442 acid cleaned and hot dip galvanized... This would offer complete protection for the life of the car and in my opinion would look pretty sharp...

My concern is the hot dip process and the molten zinc flowing out every nook and cranny - I'm wondering if anyone on here has gone through the process and has any pros/cons to the process...

Did you check to see how much to powder coat it? That seems like a better choice to me.

I'm still working on getting numbers put together. I have not received a quote yet.

I have 650 bucks in my frame, including 300 for epoxy primer/catalyst and paint. I dont plan to live forever so I dont need the frame to last forever. It made it this far with a very thin coat of paint, it will be fine with a coat of epoxy primer and paint.

I think my preference is to galvanize, but i'm still looking at getting some feedback as to any ill effects of the process.

Also, wasn't the delorean in B2tF stainless.. Might need it for time travel~!

The nice thing about the galvanizing is that it will coat the inside of the box sections. Powder coat does not. I'm just not sure I care for the galvanized look. Also, you'll likely need to re-tap any threaded holes after the hot dip. Fortunately, there aren't that many.

The obvious benefits of galvanizing are one thing, as far as the look goes. I like it, however you can paint (special kind) over the top of the galvanized frame to stay original. It should have been done at the factory in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback!

Post a few pictures of your frame once you have it done. I would like to see how it came out/looks .
