Hood Stripe Paint Recomendations

I am considering/planning putting white stripes on the hood of my Burgundy Mist 69 Cutlass. I had the car painted BC/CC 2 years ago and there is an imperfection in the base coat on the hood that can be seen under certain lighting conditions. It bugs me. Putting the stripes on would solve my problem and I have always liked them. I've put them on most cars I have owned. But I am wondering did they use a gloss or satin finish and what paint should I use? Something single stage I think would be easier? I have the Assembly Manual for location and spacing and plan on using Scotch fine line pull away tape to tape off and get the spacing at the same time. I know they sell stencils but I also believe the same results can be achieved with a little patience. Anyone's experience and any suggestions are welcome.
thanks,
Steve
