Which do you prefer ?
A non scientific survey:
For a 1971 442 W30 hardtop, which combination do you prefer:
MEAN: Saturn Gold with Black stripes....Black Interior
or
Classy: Viking Blue with White stripes....White Interior

I like hardtops with black interior though the nice thing about white is that besides the door panels and the seats everything else is black, I love the look of white with blue - especially on convertible (no kidding )
but also like black interior with a gold car - sorry no help from me

Ahhh.... someone with my same delima. My 70 is gold now, with gold interior...I bought it because its fairly solid, and in good working order. I was thinking of changing interior to black and stick with the factory color, when I repaint it. But I really love the Viking Blue and White combo. My 72 CS had that combo, and it was beautiful. If I going to paint it anyway and change the interior, then shouldn't it be blue. Then, again gold isn't bad. and the vicsious (sp) cycle begins again.
On a side note, and not to hijack the thread. I have two new aftermarket fenders that came with the car. I have debated about paiting them gold and put them on the car, or wait two years until I am sure what I want to do. I wouldn't mind a couple of opinions.

Black interior is a lot lower maintenance, and easy to match if you need to replace something later. There are many, many shades of "white" and batch-to-batch there can be differences. How about black exterior with gold stripes? Or, any color outside pretty much goes with a black interior anyway.

I have had just about all the color combos.I like just about all of them, and even if you don't like it at first,it will grow on you.I had a 71 that was Viking blue, white stripe, white interior, and Nate has a Saturn gold, with black stripe & black interior. He was going to do a color change when he painted the gold car,but I convinced him to leave it alone, and he has agreed ever since.I prefer a white or pearl interior, over black, but it also depends on the body color.Black interior will show all dirt or lint, but also the easiest to replace or redye.
The 71 that I currently own is black with gold stripe, black interior.Great car to look at,but from a care standpoint,it's a little nerve-racking.I currently have it apart, and ready to go onto the rotissere,so it can be ugly & dirty for awhile.
I've had plenty of greens, reds, blues, golds, sienna, sandalwood, black,ba mboo,a yellow, and a few whites.I've had 2 burgundy cars. One had black top & interior, and it just didn't do anything for me.My other one is white stripe with pearl interior. The color itself needs more pop,but the stripe & interior set it off.

Then, I aquire a 71 442 W30 that needs a lot of work but the price is right. The cowl tag was deciphered(thanks to help from this sight) as Saturn Gold with black stripes and interior. I have $1,000 or so invested in the white interior.
The "right thing to do" is restore the 71 W30 according to the cowl tag. I'd be lucky to get 1/2 the money back for the interior. I do like the blue/white combo. The question is: Is it just a sin to do the blue/white combo or is it a MORTAL SIN to not follow the cowl tag?

The 72 interior "looks" the same as 71,but the grains are different, and I would not put that 72 interior into the 71 anyway.Leave that with the 72.
Being that it is a 442,and you possibly have a sheet to prove it is a W30,I would leave the color combination original.

Since its a W30 the big question is how stock will the car be? is it matching #'s? If the car is correct in every way but paint codes it will have a bigger impact on the value than if other liberties are taken. How big a factor is resale? if you are building the car for you to drive & enjoy you should build it the way you want it.
