Cutlass S - emblem paint color and code?
The red color background in the 1971 Cutlass S emblems.
Fusicks web site refers to this color as "claret poly" when describing their emblems.
Is this the correct name? if not, what is the correct color name?
If so,would anyone happen to know the code the auto paint supply shop needs to mix this color?
The guy at the paint shop could not find anything listed for "claret poly".
thanks

Clear Poly
I have been Re Painting and touching up my Olds emblems with
Testors Part # 1529 Red MF Rouge Metallic .
I thin it out with Testors Thinner to get the paint to level off and flow before drying.
In my opinion it is a duplicate of the Claret Poly.
Good luck

Thanks for the tip Oldsmaniac,I have been experimenting with different model paints from the local hobbyshop. They have all kinds of oddball colors in the paint section for model railroading.
All with unacceptable results.
I'm getting tired of stripping the paint and trying over again.
The emblem looks great after being polished up and the black areas painted, now only if I can find an acceptable red.
If this request thread fails I'll go back to the drawing board with your tip about adding blue.
thanks

Check out this thread.

I like Allan R's nail polish suggestion, that stuff has a zillion shades of red.
Back in the day guys bought a zillion of those little bottles and spray painted their cars with it, very expensive even then.

Blue, thanks for the link to the nail polish thread. If the Testors 1529 dosen't produce acceptable results I'll be heading to Walgreens cosmetic isle.
Rroth, thank you very much for the offer of mailing your extra bottle.Very generous and kind of you. I was able to find a bottle at my local hobby shop.

I did stop at a second auto body supply shop to inquire about the claret poly color, the guy told me he's not going to spend an hour looking thru paint code books for a $15 sale. I told him I can't believe I wasted 20 minutes of my time on his shop and I wouldn't be buying the SEM products I was getting ready to pull off his shelf. I would also recommend to everyone I know into cars to stay away from his place.
