71 cutlass conv

I plan on making my cutlass look like a w-30, with stripes and raised hood. I'm not concerned about matching numbers, etc. as this build is for my own enjoyment. I have just completely redone my interior black. I like the lighter blues, with white stripes, but not sure they would be appropriate for a black interior. I'm not big on a white top, as it will get crappy looking in short order. Exterior color thoughts with black interior? I'm not sure blue and white stripes would coordinate with a black top and black interior. Thoughts?

I'm kind of partial to silver with black W30 stripes. Especially since it would match your interior.

I was thinking a bright red with black stripes, but it seems that it's kinda over done. Hard to choose a color.

gold......

Well copper and silver have been mentioned why not nugget gold.... its a special order color, and I have seen a 69 very (Brian's) in the major builds section that is drop dead gorgeous, I like the silver, I also like the copper , black makes all colors more intense, artistically speaking

If I do a black convertible top and black interior, can I get away with a lighter blue and white stripes?..I would think stripe color should match top/interior color?...thoughts?

Just my opinion but having the 3 different colors you stated doesn't really seem to be a great combination. If you do go with a lighter blue, I'd definitely go with the black stripes to match the top/interior

I agree Allan, I think that the stripes should match the top color. I'm not a big fan of blue with black stripes...maybe I'll stay with red with black stripes.

Thanks for the picture Allan, that silver looks nice. I just can't make up my mind, silver doesn't give the paint much depth...an even darker silver/gray?....bright red/black stripes?...I"m thinking the stripes should match the top color?

Actually in the sun, that silver really does pop. This is my car at an all Olds show in 2010

In the long run it's up to your personal choice. My first 72 Cutlass S was Matador red and I loved that color too. Black doesn't really pop as much on red IMO

I appreciate your assistance Allan. I just can't decide what color combo to go with. I think I would like to have a black top, as white would show dirt and wear more quickly. I already have a new black interior.

May I also suggest to install some type of kill switch in the car. I had a bad experience where my 1971 cutlass convertible was stolen right out of the Canfield, Ohio fairgrounds. I strongly recommend this to anyone that is restoring their Oldsmobiles or currently has one that is restored.

Throw all your top color choices into a paper bag. Close your eyes and draw one. That will be your color. If you like all those colors it's just a matter of random draw.

Suggestion: If you know someone with photoshop on their puter, have them render as many different combos as you like to see the end run before the sanding and painting begins.

I am partial to the blues. I think that the blue with black stripes would be nice, but you do not see many silver ones. I do like the silver with black stripes - very sharp.

How cool is that! I found the pic web surfing. I know that Matador Red is a lovely color, but it looks soooo much nicer in the sun. My first Cutlass also had black accents, but like I said it didn't seem to pop as much as a light color with black.

Don't get me wrong - your car is drop dead gorgeous and if I found one just like it up here I'd be hard pressed to steer away from buying it. Thx for sharing that ownership trivia!

Black/Gold stripes is my favorite
I also like Viking Blue a lot.

Pretty much any color will "fit" with a black interior.

If you are using a black convertible top I would either go black or a lighter color for a contrast.
