68' trunk latch area body color or splatter paint?

Spraying a 68' 442 and wondered if the latch area inside the trunk is body color or splatter. Web searches show it both ways. I had the latch itself is re cad plated but I'd like to know what the support color is.

Thanks for any help.

This is a pic of my trunk latch area after I put a new floor in. You can clearly see trunk splatter paint inside. You can lightly see it outside however it mostly covered in primer. I am 99% sure that that no restoration work was ever done to the trunk prior to my restoration which began in 2003

It's a 04C Lansing 442 Convertible

Another. Less clear but taken earlier in the restoration. You can see the splatter paint on the outside too

Here are pics of my '69 4-4-2 convertible trunk latch area in their original condition. My '69 is a Fremont car.

Thank you. Interesting to me they sprayed right over the removable latch. Trunk lids must have been set/adjusted and then they did the trunk.

Thanks for the help. I didn't make it original. Just because Olds was sloppy doesn't mean I have to be.

Randy I noticed you don't have the wiring grommet next to your latch. Do you think it was always absent? The reason I ask is I also have a '69, low mileage original, and it lacks that same grommet. I figured it just disappeared sometime in the last 5 decades, but maybe it was never there.

Hi Brian, The grommet was there - I had just removed it because it was falling apart. I replaced it during restoration of the car. One thing I did notice with this car, however, is that the quality control was lacking. There were several attachment screws, and some bolts, that just weren't there. The stainless trim piece around the back of the convertible top was held in place at only 4 attachment points. My '69 has factory cruise control so the cable run for the speedometer is a little different. The opening through the firewall where the speedo cable goes without cruise control was just left wide open - it should have had a cover grommet. Then again, mine is a Fremont car and Fremont cars are not known for their quality control! I'm just glad it survived all those shortcomings!

When I pulled my pinch weld molding I only remember four clips and the small screws at each end. The trim kind of floated there loosely, I assume so the convertible boot clips could wrap around the bottom.

The latches were assembled with the trunk lid.
Then adjusted.
