I've saved a few tires on my new cars because of the tire pressure sensors. I seem to attract nails.....
Has anyone added aftermarket sensors? I've seen them on ebay for anywhere between $50 and $200.

Ive seen a few types pressure sensors that air in the cap or valve and OEM style ones. The cap or valve style you need to check to be certain they are still indicating good pressure where as the OEM style provide feedback thur a lcd screen (maybe w RF like OEM)

IMHO its another mandated thing about new cars that i dont care for. I can certainly see the benifits of the system, Ive also experienced the negatives w bad senders and poor implementation, along w the expense of replacement senders and then when snow tires were added i opted for no TPMS on the snows....

 

Aftermarket sensors are tricky. I tried two different types on my Genesis Coupe when getting a set set of tires. Neither worked. Now on my car the TPMS is connected into the Traction Control. But, luckly for me, my TPMS only work via a "wireless rf signal" or something of the like. Meaning, they transmit a receiver to a device in the car somewhere.

So what did I do? I had a local tire shop dismount my mini spare, I threw all 4 OEM sensors inside it, pumped it up to like 65psi and put it back in the trunk. The car doesn't even know the different.

Now I don't have a spare tire, but I have Hyundai Roadside assistance for 10 years, so I probably won't ever need one.

 

I wanted the sensors that transmit a signal into the car.
But it sounds like I may be best off to wait til I'm getting new tires.
I would really hate to pay to have a set of tires remounted and balanced only to see they dont work.
