I can't get the rubber trunk bumpers to get the little rubber nub cone through the hole to have them stay in place. I also will be installing the door rubber bumpers with the two cone shaped nubs on each one. Is there a special trick or tool to make it happen?

It’s much easier to pull them through the hole than push them, but access to the backside is probably limited.

Perhaps lube the nubs and push on the edges with a tool such as a small flat blade screwdriver?

 

 

When I did my 71, I put the bumpers on using a small diameter philips screwdriver with some soapy water on the nubs going in. I inserted the screwdriver into the holes and slowly and GENTLY pressed to stretch out the nubs where they popped into place. Don't go crazy, just a gentle, consistent pressure and they should pop in.

That was over 30 years ago, so there's that.

Yes the WD along with the help of a tool.
Wood Popsicle stick or carefully work in into the hole with a screwdriver etc.
If there is a hole on the outside face you can push a blunt object the same or similar diameter as the hole and wiggle it into place.
Its not rocket science just lube and finesse.

 

I have found that a Silicon grease works a lot better than WD40 on rubber parts like that.

 

Glass cleaner/soapy liquid or silicone grease. Petroleum based lubes are potentially damaging to the rubber. Push/pull/twist simultaneously = best method, any single one will work, just not as easily.
