When pumping gas…..

It’s a pain when the license plate gets in the way when pumping gas. Has anyone MacGuyvered a solution?

Take your gas cap and leverage it the area of the spring, between those two sheet metal ridges. It should hold your plate open.

I have always laid the gas cap or wedge it tank side down, at the pivot point at where the plate holder bolt RH side at the bumper. Worked when I drove these daily and works like a charm still on my 70 supreme.

I've just never had a problem with this. It looks like your filler neck should extend out a little further maybe? Hard to tell, because the image doesn't give a real sense of depth.

Yes, GM did back when these cars were designed:

They're usually held open by the gas pump nozzle.

True...but using the cap to hold it open means you're less likely to drive away forgetting to replace the cap!

If only Olds had let people know about this feature, like by putting it in the OWNER'S MANUAL...

I can't tell you that it will fit with no modification, but I have saved two or three license plate holders from 90's caprices. They snap down into place and stay open. My intention was to use one them on my cutlass, and one on my 55 truck to hide a trailer hitch. I haven't got around to it yet
