Well I agreed to do a heater core on 67 Cutlass hard top no air car. 2 years ago, even had the core bought since then. I can probably get by on my basic knowledge. But anyone has any copies of those pages for R&R can scan for me?

I did search and some one had mentioned that the service manual said something about drilling 1/2" hole in the fender liner to access the lower bolt on the core cover. Then owner freaked out when I told him about it! So it looks like I will remove most of the hardware and slide it out of the way.

This is one of those times you will be thankful the car has no A/C. Basically disconnect the 2 hoses, remove the nuts around the front firewall that hold the heater housing inside the car to the firewall. There is one that is under the front fender area that is a bitch to get to. Persistence and specific cuss words required. I leave this nut off when it goes back together. Then carefully pull the heater box inside the car away from the firewall. You can leave the cables connected. Move it out far enough to get access to the core. Replace core and reassemble, note getting the 2 heater core tubes back through the firewall goes better with a helper.

 

Spend the money, buy your own copy of an original Chassis Service Manual. This is the best investment you will make if you plan to do any work on this car. There is a pretty scruffy original on ebay right now for a whopping $10. Personally mine all get grease stained anyway, so why pay $60 for a pristine one?

Joe, I have the service manuals for my 70 and 2004 cars. But I really don't want to invest in something I am going to use once. This job is a trade for window install that was brand new (actually same day) and my wife dropped a window treatment on the trim vinyl piece that holds the seal and the whole frame had to replaced

The guy actually owns the company paid for the casing and install. So I have to return with heater core and install. Good news is I have been having lower back spasms to boot!

 

Pull the inner fenderwell it's fairly easy unless the bolts are just ruster then hell.

Its really not that hard of a job and pretty straight forward once you get into it.

 

Ok thanks again. I did my 70 with air and had the manual. 4.5 hours of labor for that one. Not real bad but very time consuming! The only issue I had was when put the diffuser plenum back in, I did not see one of the vacuum hoses got pinched between the firewall and plenum. Easy enough to correct.

As usual great bunch of people here willing to help, first time for me to ask for help. The 68+ is more in my comfort zone, I grew up working on 68-77 A bodies with adult guys in the neighbor hood.
