Personalized touch to 65 Jetstar I (so people will stop asking what engine is in it:)

Personalized touch to 65 Jetstar I (so people will stop asking what engine is in it:)

For those who don't know, the "425" emblems were used on '67 Delmont 88s so equipped. The font is reminiscent of that used on the similar era 442 emblems, and nicely matches the "Jetstar" script on my car. Nice thing is its not permanent (posts were removed and they are installed with double sided tape), so I can easily remove them when and if I decide to.

Here's what the emblem looks like in its factory application:

So that's a 4251?

Looks great! Nice accent. Really is a "factory should-have". Jetstar 1s are far to often confused with Jetstar 88s. And they are *so* different!!

Nice touch indeed! I have always wished Oldsmobile made some fender badges for the 455 engine.

Thanks...I'm hoping with the new emblem, I'll be allowed to enter my car in a local for-charity car show (they are very picky about who can contribute to their charity; no small-block cars allowed)

A very nice finishing touch, and non permamnent. I love that mirrored paint that is in the last picture!
You will still get (non-car) people asking what kind of engine it has. I am still asked by the automotive ignorant if my car has a "V6" in it. When i say V8, their eyes almost pop out...

I never thought of using a Byooik 455 emblem. But Pat has a point that finding a 455 emblem that looks like the correct era would be hard, unless you had them special made.

Well, some years back I had the emblems mounted on the (now gone) M/T valve covers I had on it, and with the hood up, people STILL asked what size engine it had, haw haw!

On the subject of personalized touches, I've since fiddled around with how the motor is "dressed" in my J1, going for a early '60s Starfire look with the aftermarket ribbed covers and a "chrome" 442 air cleaner...still looks reasonably stock.

Next time someone asks, you can say it is 17 cubes short of the 442 cubic inch engine That makes it a small block, right? What about the Jetstar 88? Was it equipped with an 88 cube Briggs & Stratton? Yep, we have heard it all over the years from the "gurus" of the "brand x" cars.

The 65 Jetstar I and Starfire are very nice cars. Good to see you have one in such excellent condition.
