went to a wrecking yard today to try and find a black interior for my car, this place is a huge pull a part in sunnyside called Tee Pee auto wrecking, the staff is useless, you call and ask if they have something and they say "most likely, we have a lot of cars" so i drive 66 miles to this place and oddly enough, i didnt find any novas with a black interior, let alone novas were scarce, but all the WAY IN THE BACK of the lot, i found whats left of this little 74 Omega S

front clip was missing, its a hatchback, 6 cylinder auto. I pulled what was left of the black interior with exception of the rear most side panels because its a hatch, mine doesnt have those, that and i couldnt open the hatch. its really sad, this was the dirtiest car in the yard, i couldnt find one of the visors until i dug around in the dirt on the floor boards, and lone behold, there it was. i also found a pontiac ventura 6 cylinder 3 speed manual. kinda cool

 

ill get more pictures up soon, its official, the car is in my buddys shop, tore the rear end out and started to take the interior apart. the car is gettin stripped painted, interior changed to black, and a 6 speed manual trans. i want the omega, not a omega

looks better with weld draglite wheels, cant decide on a color, i need help from the oldsmobile community i think on that one. thinkin dark green, or bright blue, or like rally red. just cant decide. any thoughts?

also most of the interior is out, anyone have any thoughts on the pegboard headliner? i imagine you pull it out through the windshield hole. i need a fischer body manual haha

just a small update, got the motor back out, interior is apart, gonna go pull trans, and start pulling front end apart. ( i know its easier to pull engine and trans and sub frame at once, but ive never done it before, so im doing it this way first, when i install ill install as one piece)

the rear bumper now sits almost 2" closer to the body length wise, and width wise is 2" narrower

probably goin with a fiberglass front bumper as well.

 

heres where bumper sits now, used to sit way farther back, kinda looked like a swim deck on a boat haha

a machinist friend of mine, and myself, cut what was left of the support brackets, and took 1 3/4 out of them. then we cut 2 one inch strips out of the bumper and welded it back together, its almost done, gotta get all ground down, it will get a bit of plastic, then painted to match

I just found out you can take 425 rods and pontiac pistons and make a long rod 455, im in love. anyone have a line on a good set of oem or aftermarket 425 rods?

I'm looking for the chrome piece around the rear licence plate.Weren't the S'es all 455's with a 4 speed?

I wish.. My "S" is a 350/350...Original engine, tranny...

 

The Omega S decals were part of the Y70 sport appearance option. They didn't signify any particular engine/trans option.
I have 2 similar decals in my basement, they just say Omega (no S). Olds Accessory part # 983416.

Oh, yeah - no Omega ever had a factory installed engine bigger than a 350.

 

Dream on....no big block was ever offered in the Omega.

 

i dont think that chrome peice was there, if it was, it was ruined, it got smacked pretty hard in the back ( i wanted the rear bumper )

the most decked out omega i have heard of was a 350 4 barrel 4 speed. wouldnt mind having one of those, but since I cant find one, ill build one haha, only 455, 6 speed. speaking of which, engine and trans are out

There used to be an Olds Omega web site.And they said that the 455 4 speed and ralley wheels were installed at the dealership.as a resault no one knows how many were made.If the 455 was installed at the dealership there would be no code on the plate ,right? I have heard of 2 in my area.I never saw them.But I,heard about the one a few times.its in a garage about 25 miles away from me.the other on I heard about was low mileage garage kept $4500 before I got to it.Guy was offered $3500 and took it last I ever heard about that one.

wow, i would die if i found a dealer installed 455 omega setup, that would be so cool, kinda like an SSAMX

 

So I have a question on crankshafts, I got this other 455 from my friend, and the crank doesnt have the same finish as the N cranks im used to seeing but it does have this casting number in it

my question is, when I build my long rod 455, should I use this crank, or my N crank? which one is better. I have no idea what this crank is

So as a major update, I got most of the stuff off the front of car, everything but 1 fender, then the core support, and finally ill get the subframe out.

On another note, I have had another good transaction with another classicoldsmobile member, looks like im the proud new owner of a flywheel from 2blue442

also, i want to ask the community, this has metal fender wells, should I have them blasted and powdercoated red to look like w30 fenderwells for fun? or leave them black? thoughts?

Red fender wells would be kind of cool. I also thought these cars would have looked so much better with the smaller bumpers from the earlier years Nova. I think '68-'72....

 

funny you mention that, My rear bumper is 1.75 inches further forward, and 2 inches narrower, and i plan on getting a fiberglass 73 front bumper, which is smaller than the 74. if i had nothing but time and money, i would go through and make small camaro style bumpers for it like nonhog was thinking about doing, but unfortinately, I have a budget haha!

 

x2 on the red fenderwells, that would be pretty cool. Like what you did to the rear bumper as well. It looks much nicer than stock in that position.

 

Seriously? You would consider putting a cheby bumper on an Olds?Even if it did look better?Let's try not to use the "n" word here,you know "nova".
Also x3 on the red inner fender,but paint the fire wall the same as the car.I always that looked good.Be careful not to get to many colors going though.

let me elaborate, a 73 Omega fiberglass bumper. Glasstek makes them, and they look smaller than 74 bumpers on google images

 

weld across face of bumper all ground down. one of these on each side. holes still need plugged

Also I should point out this has been the biggest MAW project I have ever had, the killer was when I found out the control arm bushings were shot... MAW

 

Didnt get a whole lot done this evening, but I did get the column tore out, changed the pedals over. anyone know if there is something that comes on the floor in 4 speed cars that the clutch pedal will bottom out against when you push it down? anyways I got some pics

I don't think there's a stop for the clutch pedal. It shouldn't be able to get to the floorboard once it's hooked up, if everything is adjusted properly.

thanks for the input! Im probably gonna go hydraulic, so we will just jump off that bridge when we get there. On the other side of things the rubber baby buggy bumper that the pedal rests against when your foot isnt on the clutch, was not in the kit, but I did find them through classic industries for like 4 bucks, cant complain!

Weekend is coming up, hopefully Ill have plenty more to share by sunday evening!
