so much easier, the 403 is the same outside dimensions as a 350. the steering box will clear, the shift linkage will clear. everything would be way better.

Me and the Mrs. are overdue for an Ellensburg visit.
if you go to rack and pinion steering the bbo will work with room to spare . it is that steering box behind the sub frame that gets in the way . headers on a small block olds barly fit , some you have to massage with a hammer . I did a 74 omega and had the front end was already done with a new steering box so I built a calm 403 w a 200r trans ,fun car I regret using 373 gears the tourq needed 323 or 308. I will be doing a 74 ventura with a 550 hp sbo 433 dx moter th400 and 308 gears ,

From what I've read rack and pinion setups seem to be iffy, probably need to the buy the expensive conversions.

I am still here, sorry about not really concluding this thread. I am a very busy person at the moment. The car is 99% complete at this point. I have all new interior, including a headliner from acme auto headlining. I have driven the car to work several times. needs the windshield chrome installed, and an exhaust built, and the subframe connectors installed and other little work, but she is pretty close. My summers are pretty busy, this is the time of year i have more free time to play with cars.

2.5 exhaust I feel would be more than enough. I'm revving the 455 past 6k. I have some small Donaldson mufflers I cut the plug out to make them straight through to just take some of the harshness out of the note. I'm hoping to install a 403 after all this work I've done. I got a block for free and I picked up a set of forged piston nos off of Ebay, I also picked up a 100 dollar 330 for the crankshaft. So I have a nice pile of parts sitting aside

I feel horrible I never really gave this thread a proper conclusion. Although that being said, are project cars ever really done? Getting to visit Nonhog before he moved out of town was a real nice moral boost to get some more work done to this car. Believe it or not, between my last post, and this post, all I think I have accomplished was rebuilding the 455 and taking care of a bunch of loose ends on the car. The 455 flattened a cam lobe (probably from spending years driving on and off of trailers). So it got pulled, the 455 steel crank (yes 400943 steel crank) got micro polished, I had picked up a set of 425 rods many many years ago from someone on this forum, those got resized with arp bolts and put together with some forged Pontiac flat tops pistons. A set of pro comp aluminum heads were set up and ported by J&S along with a solid lifter cam and some 800-16 lifters were all put together to make the current engine in this car. I am happy with how the car has turned out, I finished the exhaust with a set of Jones straight through mufflers and some flow master tail pipes. I went on to install an electric water pump (flows lots of water at idle compared to a stock pump) that i got from pegasus auto racing, and a volvo 2 speed fan off of a 940 station wagon i think, which by the way, fits the radiator PERFECTLY. literally made a slit in the top for the top plate to latch onto and it was installed. The car has a completely new interior, the attached picture is a little old, but you get the idea. I have had a blast with this car all these years, I am thankful for my followers that pushed me along this project and didn't give up on me. If you notice in my signature, this car is for sale. If you know of anyone that is interested in a car like this, send them my way. When I started building this car, I wanted the most radical car on the street, I think I have accomplished that, but now that I am older, I really want a stock cruiser. I have a freshly rebuilt 401 amc engine laying around that is sentimental to me that I would like to utilize, I realistically dont have the budget for two muscle cars. We will see what happens. I have taken the car to several cruise nights, and driven it around, so far it has proven to be pretty reliable and FAST... almost too fast.

Love the car. Love the build. Love the green. Hopefully you can keep a Buick motor in it. Nice job.

Well that build turned out really nice, you should be proud of your work. I hope you at least get a descent dollar for it. I myself have now entered semi-retired life and sure miss those big paychecks oh well. So through the years I've been collecting parts for my bucket list build. Not sure if I'm going to punch out a 496 or a 510 Olds. I have a spare 69 block that can take 0.125 overbore, I sonic tested it, should be ok with hard-blocking. 510", 7" rod, with 427 Ford flattop pistons. So I'm going to throw a hail-Mary and put 2 69mm turbos on it with EFI and see what I get. Running in the 12's is nice but it is getting boring. I'm also sorry to say that I picked up a spare BBC 454 to make into a 489 encase the Olds goes boom. My daughter wants me to keep the current 455 for her when she inherits the car LOL, she hasn't driven it yet. Good luck on your sale. Oh by the way a std. deck BBC fits headers no problem. LOL

Thanks for the reply, good luck with your project! I have nothing against Chevy engines, just like the Oldsmobile engines more ha-ha!

Just run across this build! Very nice looking Omega!

was searching Glasstek bumpers for Omegas and your build came up. Did you finally go for finerglas bumpers or are this the original metal ones just painted?
