A quick update. Just got the doors and trunk back from the body shop. Took a lot longer than expected. Had to scrap the doors on the car. They are primed and the jams painted the color of the car. Replaced the lower glass channel and the vent window rubber. Everything is installed and ready for the car. Will try and get the other door assembled and ready for the car. By then it should be done snowing!! See the photo below.

Wow, just finished reading this thread and I'm totally in awe of your resolve to overcome the trials you've had to endure along the way. It must be hugely satisfying to find and then bring a loved family member back from the edge like that.
I've always had a soft spot for the Jetfire as it opitimizes the way Old's thinking and engineering was so far advanced for the time, for me anyway.
Best of luck to you and I can't wait to see videos of the Jetfire, resplendent, driving down the road again.

73aussie455,
Thank you for the reply. We just got the assembled doors on the car with the trunk lid. I will try and post some more photos when I get it outside. Been a long project but it will be worth it.
Be well,
Ken

Just retired and moved to Maryland. I have a lot more time to work on the car. Just pulled the motor. Have both doors installed. Been stripping parts, bead blasting and getting things painted and detailed. Finished painting the engine compartment. Painted the floors on the inside and seam sealed them. Now to the underside. A few photos below. More to follow.

I was thinking about calling you. I located several NOS 63 parts. Tail light lenses, park light assemblies, Jetfire gas cap, power steering hoses, and many other small items. I will try to get a list of all the parts he has and call you.

New Jetfire Photos

Just catching up with some photos. Door are on and the trunk lid. Starting to shape up. Been striping parts, bead blasting and painting for the last 3 weeks. Seam sealed the floor from the top and bottom. Undercoated half the floor today. Running out of warm weather to paint. Next thing on the list is to install the windshield. Soon to the engine to clean it up and install some new gaskets. Still a lot to do.

Windshield installed & engine on the stand

Both posts painted and installed the windshield over the weekend. Put the engine on the stand and ready to re-gasket it. Paint and detail it. Still striping, bead blasting and painting parts.

Still looking for parts!

Jetfire progress.

Thanks for the reply! This car is one of those projects. My dad and I restored it back in 1981/82. Sold it i n 1987. My son wanted a new project. It was a surprise to both of us that a garaged car could be in such bad shape. All the rare parts were still there. The car will never be a #1 car. The engine came from a tractor pull tractor. Almost all the parts came from 50 other Jetfire's. Most of the parts have a story about it. Dad and I converted it to stick. The car will be 100% correct. Still a long way to go but hope to get the engine and trans back in in the spring. Engine detail and more striping, bead blasting, and painting to go.
Anyone seeing a Jetfire or parts leads drop me a email.

Things are starting to slow down with winter coming. Cleaning the engine and re-gasket the intake manifold, and the painted the oil pan. All bolts and hardware coated. Just locating parts and bead blasting parts.
Always looking for parts and cars! Need a 1961, 1962, and 1963 Olds Cutlass, F85 or Buick Special Skylark!!
Thanks,
Ken

Greg,
Thank for your reply! Just waiting for the weather to break. Been in Fla for Jan. Seems like it's been under 15 degrees and snow for the whole winter. Looking for someone to re-core my heater core.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, nice to see the car is coming along. Yeah, the winter here in NJ has been a beotch, so cold I can't even stand fiddling in my (unheated) garage for very long.

As for the heater core, I had the radiator in my '65 Jetstar I re-cored by "Fingers" on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick:

http://www.fingersradiator.com/

They did a nice job; being that mine is a 4 speed car and my (original) radiator doesn't have the provision for trans cooling lines (i.e I'd die before finding another), you can imagine that I would't trust it to just anyone. They did a nice job. I think they can do heater cores as well. Couldn't hurt to call them.

Best,

Scott

First update in about 9 months. Was a very long winter for me but been working real hard this spring and through a very hot summer. The photos do not look like much was done but took a lot to get to this point. Every time I think I have everything cleaned bead blasted and painted I find more. The engine is installed as well as the bell housing, flywheel, clutch assembly and trans. I have the clutch linkage, bell crank, and pedals. Have the Hurst shifter installed. Also installed the heater core and blower motor. Stripped a fuel pump bolt hole last week. Installed two helicoils and re-assembled the front cover to the engine. Installed power steering and alternator brackets. Next on the list is the wiring harness. I should have more photos soon.

Working on the interior. Dash pad, door panels installed. Carburetor due next week so moving to the engine next. Hopefully it should be running by the new year.

Carburetor arrived last week! Installed the radiator, alternator, and turbo assembly. A lot of lines to hook up and hoses. Still have a few more days before I try to start it. Should be running after Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all,
Ken

OK the re-start is complete. Drove it a mile or so. Moved, shifted and stopped. First time in 5 years. Lots of details and exhaust installed. See the video.
