Part search

I have a vacuum tank but can't find in my books what it goes to. I think it was for door locks which I think went electric by 68. Group 10.485. Part 403396. It's in the GM box and marked oldsmobile. Anybody know what model this is for? Thanks Pat

I'm pretty sure power door locks went electric in 1970. However, those vacuum tanks that mount on the firewall (looked like a tin can thru about '68, as I recall, and then went plastic for follow-on years) had various uses for different options. Do you have a pic of your vacuum tank that you can post? I've also seen another style of large metal tank that I pulled out of a '69 98 that's bigger than the vacuum tanks I've seen mounted on the firewall (see pics below) and I don't know what it would be used for. The plastic style of vacuum tank that I mention above also appears in two of these pics.

Vacuum tank

I have the same large metal tank as pictured above. It was from a 1969 Delta with vacuum door locks. It mounted on the passenger side inner fender behind the headlights. This car also had a smaller metal vacuum tank mounted on the firewall. They went to electric in 1970.

The plastic tanks in your pic are like the 2 in my 1965 98, so plastic was used early at least in the big car.

Thanks for the part number confirmation. It looks a lot like my 66 Toro but slightly smaller.
