Oldsmobiles in movies!

1977 movie with Desi Arnaz, Jr, Melainie Griffith and Robert Carradine - soundtrack includes tracks from ELO - interestingly, I don't remember them actually driving a Cutlass in the movie itself - they had an old converted Pontiac hearse through much of it.

Haven't seen that one and don't remember it from my misspent 70s years.
Desi Jr was the only recognizable name at the time. Two had double-barreled showbiz names though- Carradine and Lockhart. That was a pre-Botox Melanie Griffith!

Robert Carradine had just come off his role in the car race film Cannonball - (not Cannonball Run), playing a visibly lesser part in the film than his starring brother David. Melanie Griffith had just previously been seen in the Gene Hackman film Night Moves (most of her scenes sans clothing)....
Joyride was essentially about the 3 main stars (Carradine, Arnaz, Griffith) drifting through misadventures while traveling the country living out of an old Pontiac hearse - it was during one of their misadventures when they essentially kidnapped Lockhart (and if I recall correctly, a relationship with the Arnaz character soon followed)..
Never became as popular as that "other" Pontiac road trip movie of 1977 but an interesting watch.....

Indeed
She was actually 17 at the start of its filming. The Night Moves production actually stalled a bit until Melanie turned 18 - they couldn't film her 'clothing-challenged' scenes until then.

How about Woody Harrelson. I dont know if its coincidence or he has a thing for oldsmobiles but two of his movies have Olds in them: "Play it to the bone"
and "Kingpin"

Um, I know Baywatch is not a movie, but Danny Trejo drives a '75 (?) Supreme in a chase in which that poor car gets beat up something awful before (who could've guessed ?) it ends up in the Pacific.
In "Kill Me Three Times" Simon Pegg (as a hit man, lol) drives a '66 Toronado...love those cars.

To avoid making references which have already been made (Woody Harrelson's movies as an example), I read this entire thread first. I looked on the IMCDB website and could not find a reference for this so cannot verify it but maybe someone here knows. The previous owner of the '72 Vista Cruiser I now have told me that she rented the car to a movie producer for use in a semi documentary about a famous gangster called Whitey something or other. In it the car was seen when a bad guy gets shot and rolls over the hood. As I mentioned, I can't verify this, she said the movie was made by a group like PBS or something. Lot's of vague references here I realize but if anyone knows about this I would appreciate hearing from you. She said they put four new tires on the car because they needed them and they are still on it now.

It was probably Whitey Bulger who was one of the most violent infamous crime bosses in the history of the country. There was a movie made about him called Black Mass starring Johnny Depp.

Also - Characters based on Whitey Bulger
- The character of Frank Costello (played by Jack Nicholson) in the 2006 Martin Scorsese film The Departed i
