I recently had headers and exhaust put on my 72. Within a week, it sounded like I had an exhaust leak. Upon further inspection, the noise, which increases with RPM, is coming from the block. Appears to be lifters on both sides.

Any miracle fixes out there? Maybe trying a different viscosity oil? Recommendations?

Pull the valve covers first to make sure its lifters/valvetrain.

You may have an exhaust leak, try tightening your header bolts I be they are loose and possibly you blew out your header gasket/s.

^^^THIS. Sounds like an exhaust leak. I suspect the header bolts are loose. Welcome to header ownership. Use Remflex gaskets if you have to replace them. Follow the installation torque instructions carefully.

Headers also have their own unique ticking sound that’s easily mistaken for lifter noise. As Joe stated, just goes with header ownership.
