New fuel lines

I've got new fuel lines and fuel line clips to put in a 66 442. Does anyone have experience putting the clips in (red color...same as original). The centern of the clip is a rivet, and I'm not sure how to install it in the hole drilled in the frame. Also, any suggestiions on how to get the fuel lines in? Probably a lot easier with a frame off!

My installation was a frame off so I had a lot of access to get the fuel lines in. The hardest part was running the two lines through the front frame horns. Just take your time and don't force the lines. You can run some wire through the frame and then fish the hard lines through. As for the clips, I tried to just tap them into the frame holes but they didn't hold. To remedy this I installed them in the frame holes and then took a taped punch and opened the rivet by tapping the punch. All of the clips held without any problems.

Good luck.

Fuel lines

Tha.nks Jay
It looks like the fuel lines should be routed so that the small line (return) is on the bottom. Is that correct? My 66 has a jury rigged set up for the lines so I can't tell how it is supposed to be

My Detroit Iron assembly manual shows the main fuel line on the bottom. I guess you could run it either way though.

Red Fuel line clips - How to attach to the frame?

I hope someone sees this by looking under New Posts. I just got the new red clips for the fuel lines. They are the rivet style. I'm not sure what Jay D means by using a "taped punch". Is this a tapered punch, starts thin and gets wider? Simply pounding something like that inside gets the "rivet" to expand and hold on to the frame?

Apologies if I'm asking something obvious.

Fuel Lines

Sean,

Sorry about the typo. That should have said "tapered punch". After installing the clips I used the tapered punch to open the rivet a little more and this helped holding the clips in the frame.

I did this quite a while ago so I had to go back over the original posts. Hope this helps.
