Ok, I pulled the tank on the car last night and it turns out it did have a few gallons of fluid in it. I live in a neighborhood where I can't exactly...well dispose of this somewhere on my property. What is the proper protocol for an suburban individual with this dilemma?
locally I take "hazardous" material to the land fill where they have a special section that handles old paint and the like, not sure if your jurisdiction has something similar , if not I suspect track down a Safty Kleen truck on Monday
I usually evaporate old gas, just leave it in the sun in a black oil pan and it goes pretty quick couple gallons might take a while tho. Don't do this w anti freeze tho critters like to drink it.
I'm not even sure if what's in it is still ignitable. But for now I guess I'll offload it into a gas can. Our county hazardous waste only takes diesel and kerosene.
Iv'e got the opposite scenario. Dropped the tank on the 70 442 today and all I got
was a little dust, ha. Of course it hasn't been on the road since Sept of 81. I'll know
more of the tank's condition once I pull the sender. However, I did find my build sheet under there.
