got it runnin, now new problems
I got my car runnin after 17 years sitting! It was so awsome for about 20 minutes, then I noticed the carpet on the passengers side was soaked. The car is a 72 cutlass 350 with ac. I'm assuming the heater core has a hole in it. I pulled the carpet out to dry and started to read about pulling the heater core. I wanted to puke, it seemed like a big job. Then I realized I live in hawaii and I don't need heat. I'm wondering can I some how cap off the hoses that go to and from the heater core?
Simple, identify the hoses that go to and from the heater and run a hose between the two.
Don't just cap them off, the cooling system is designed to have coolant constantly running through the heater matrix.
Keep a 40% antifreeze mixture in the coolant, important to prevent electrolytic corrosion in the cooling system.
Roger.

It's perfectly fine to cap the heater ports. The Olds t-stat housing has a bypass build in if you're really worried about it. I'm not and have run several cars with the port capped and not ill effects.
