1961 super 88 Duramax LLY diesel project

Here a few pics of a project 61 88 pro cruiser i am currently tackling. The car was in excellent shape absolutelty no rust or rot, Me and my two sons decided because we love diesels trucks so much ,and had a spare Duramax LLY diesel motor, that it would be a great fit for a dare to be different project. It is currently stripped down to the frame and will be fitting the motor and 4l80e by late fall.
We'll keep posting as we go on.

Well, at least it's not a damn small block Chevy...

It ought to work since I doubt the Ford Diesel is any heavier than the original 394 would have been.

That will be a cool project. I always thought it would be awsome to redo a diesel engine for a project. Make sure you keep us posted!

This is the first time I have ever heard of a Ford engine in an Olds. You will no doubt have one of the most unusual cars on any cruise. Good luck on your car.

Cool project. I am sure it will be fun if nothing else. I have a 1950 Desoto s14 coupe that I plan to put on a 4x4 Dodge truck chassis with a 12 valve Cummins engine. I love Diesel too!

Definitely post some pics of the engine/trans fitment. Should be a stump puller off the line with great gas mileage.

That should be different. Just visited a private collection. A 1957 Cadillac Berlitz with the stainless steel roof. Engine installed is a Duramax diesel with a Allison 6 speed with twin turbo's full custom frame. All I can say is wow

That ^ would be wicked badass, and I'd love to check it out.

Kx1233, Something I think you need to know.......
There is a reason International (Navistar) no longer has the contract for Ford's superduty diesels.
International was sued for a billion by Ford for the unprecedented warranty repairs required by the 6.0L powerstrokes and 6.4L that followed it.
http://blogs.trucktrend.com/6203972/truck-news/ford-sues-international-for-their-twin-turbo/
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/56...e-dispute.html

The 7.3L that preceded it is FAR MORE desirable and reliable, even though it's 30% less powerful.
So me personally I'd definitely consider what you're getting yourself into with a notoriously problematic diesel.

I've been eyeballing F250 diesels since 2003 when the last 7.3L was made and the 6.0L came out.
The new trucks were dying on test drives, overheating, EGR issues, head gasket issues, etc.
For about $7,000 in repairs you can remedy what the Navistar engineers failed to do out of the gates. http://powerstrokehelp.com/

My wife's cousin works for Navistar right here in Melrose Park doing engines, the HQ for Navistar is Warrenville IL.
I'm buying a 6.7L SuperDuty F350 now instead. Just test drove the newest F350 yesterday......400hp 800lbs ft.....so badass.

FWIW There is a 66 Nova wagon with a 1000hp Duramax in it that went on Powertour.
Ultra cool IMHO.......
