Question about diesel powered cars

I've got a buddy who's looking at a parts car. It's a Chebby ElCamino, 1981-83 that came factory with a diesel engine. I've never heard of a diesel powered Elky so this caught me by surprise. I've not seen the car, but can anybody tell me if this is a Olds DX block or was there something else used in 1981-83? If its Olds I'll try to get it and offer it up here. John

I think it was the 6.2 diesel. I don't think its the olds version.

The diesel option on a 1983 elcamino was a 5.7L, I think that would have to be an Olds based block.

Every GM division used the Olds 5.7l diesel in the early 1980s. The 6.2 was NEVER installed in a passenger car from the factory.

And for good reason, that 6.2 weighs more than the car without the motor

Actually, if it is a real "N" code, it is the olds disel engine. A very rare animal. I have 3 Olds diesel cars now and I love them. They get great mileage and just make people scratch their head when your at a stoplight..

It turned out to be a V6 I've only seen one of these before and that was on a Toronado in a wrecking yard. I've read about people using the DX blocks for gas engines, but haven' heard anything about the V6.

Any interest?

John
