springs too soft in front for a sbc 350

I read a thread where the author had installed front springs from a 53 Bel Air to get a firmer ride, and possibly help out with the ride height being too low. I've got those problems with my car due to the builder swapping in the 350. Good install, but need stronger front springs. Anyway. i ordered the heavier springs (Moog 639. 53 bel air) and hope to get started on the install next weekend. I still haven't mastered posting pics, but will try to figure it out again.

HI tony

You didn't say what car you have , but moog has tons of springs for many olds applications BBO sbo 442. Etc

These replacement springs would be an exact fit for your model

Here is a list of Moog coil springs by dimension . It may help you select the right springs .

soft springs

I have a 1963 f85 convertible. Seems like the parts availability is a little scarce for that year. I'll see what the Moog 639 springs look like, i could always ebay them if neccessary. The thread I referenced was on the classic olds forums, and they worked out well for the author. I like a comfortable ride, and supposedly the moogs are rated for about 600 more lbs. Hopefully it works out well.

Your right I just checked rockauto and moog and could find no springs listed for your 63, is there something special about your springs?

IIRC another member recently put springs in his 63 cutlass I'll see if I can find the thread

soft springs

Completed the coil spring swap, much better. Also changed out the sway bar end links. For those with a heavier than stock motor, the moog 639 springs work well in a 1963 f85 convertible. While the car was up on the lift, we noticed that the drive shaft was about 1 1/4 " too long, and was pushing against the carrier bearing. Guess I'll have to shorten it. The guy who built it up to this point sold it too the person I bought it from, and he sat on it for a couple years, so it really hasn't had any of the shakedown driving it needs. A few teething issues, I guess.
