Olds off the jig pic 2 04 28 2017.JPGGot my baby running but gotta do something to hide it's homely truck intake. Doesn't really look that bad cleaned up and painted, specially with it's Sanderson Headers, but I wanna get a cover fabbed up for the intake and some covers fabbed for the heads. Preferably with a ROCKET or OLDS design.
Anyone here have any to display?.

That's a pretty good install!

Did you use a Ron Francis wiring kit to control the late model engine?
https://www.ronfrancis.com/

If you're looking for an engine cover I would start with the truck in which you found the engine. Many late model engines have engine covers. If the truck had one perhaps you could modify it by deleting any Chevy emblems and installing an Olds rocket on it.

I'm not sure whose harness they used. The MFS hasn't been installed yet, but it will be, along with all other necessary sensors.
I saw the cover, and it doesn't do anything for me. The guy doing the installation told me he is going to design paintable covers for me. KI suggested something that sez ROCKET 98.

The LS apparently is a great engine but it is ugly. I have seen some nice covers at car shows.

Valve covers are nice, but don't put Olds Rocket on an LS.

Own your shame.

You could have the intake smoothed and painted like some people have been doing. Makes the truck intake a lot more attractive.

It is your car and your money ($$$$) so put whatever you like on it.

I have been following this thread and wonder why disguising another motor as an Olds is so important. If the engine was put in a Chevy, what would it be called then ?
Maybe I am missing something ?

You know, the Olds Custome Cruiser in 1991 and 1992 used a Chevy engine. I wonder what kind of engine cover was availabe on them? Finding one in a slavage yard now would be pretty difficult, even if you could get it to fit.

I know that GM started using "Corporate engines" in several things. Maybe I am "old school", but I drove Oldsmobiles by choice. I suppose I would be buying Pontiac's if they hadn't phased them out.

People try and get an old school look on an LS all the time, they're just trying to make it period correct looking. LS motors in themselves are kinda ugly. I see no problem in that.

I think what is in the mind of those who do this is to carry the Oldsmobile 'theme' under the hood as well. I really don't think they are trying to fool anyone.

I believe if Olds was still around and GM let them put a production V8 in their lineup it would be an LS. Would the Olds purists gripe about an LS then?

Hard for me to figure out why some get down on others. Plenty of room on this site for purists and modifiers. I use the site for information, parts sourcing and checking out interesting projects, not to confirm Sainthood on Oldsmobiles or Ransom E Olds.

Sorry if it sounded like I was coming down on someone. I guess I was trying to understand the reasoning behind the effort. I can understand the "theme idea" now. Thank you.

It would still have an LS engine in it if it were around today.

Interestingly, the last Oldsmobile car to have a v8 was the Olds Aurora. The 4.0L v8 offered in the Aurora was just a baby version of the 4.6L Northstar available in Cadillacs. I suppose the 4.0L is considered a corporate GM engine.

I've often wondered if you could put an Aurora 4.0L engine cover on a 4.6L Northstar engine that was transplanted into a classic Olds.

Speaking of, the 4.0L engine cover is probably more readily available than the ones found on a 1991 or 1992 Olds Custom Cruiser. I just don't know if it would be easily adapted to the 5.3L v8.

I believe the 91 - 92 Custom Cruiser had the LT1 Chevy engine which would be a different valve cover.

It would be helpful to know what basic length and width the valve cover gasket surface is. The valve covers could be drilled emblems attached to them.

It was my understanding the OP wanted an engine cover, not valve covers.
