exhaust system!

so i got a 350 sbc in my 1953 olds, stock manifolds, lake pipes, and twin pipes on the rear. and recently i add a pair of 12inch glasspacks. the sound is really loud when the lake pipes are open but when i close them is really mellow and im looking to hear the glasspacks scream, but is just not happening! is it because of the lake pipes ? or what iam doing wrong here? different glasspacks?help guys!

Sounds like you have the Lake Pipes plumbed as open exhaust and the glass packs to rears only. You need to do a bit of replumbing.

If they are glasspacks, they will get louder as they burn out. 12 inch glasspacks are pretty short.

How is it plumbed up now? Most lake pipe systems use a cutout so that when it's opened you have very loud pipes, with minimal flow out the rear.

When it's closed, nothing comes out of the lakes and the exhaust is directed out the rear.

Without pictures it's hard to make suggestions on what to do. I would run it over to a reputable muffler shop and explain to them what your looking for and let them quote a fix.

Exhaust sound is a personal taste. If your trying to tone the side pipes down, I'd do away with the rears, and run everything through the Lake pipes. Then I would setup the cutouts to dump the open exhaust underneath.
