Chevy small block engine swap
#7
I personally dislike the overrated sbc 350. To swap over, you need different mounts, pulleys, minor changing in wiring, length the fuel line, different exhaust hook up and a possible transmission adapter. Do the gears, stall and dual exhaust I mentioned in the other thread.

Thats debatable. There are a lot of cool things you can do with a small block olds, but there’s no comparison in aftermarket support for the Chebby.
That said, OP, you’ve already got the Olds and that’s what the car came with. It would really help to know what you actually want out of the car? Power, budget, and use?

I would agree that an Olds engine is best in an Olds. However I never understand why some people always badmouth the SBC. There are millions of them out there. It is a great engine otherwise there would not be so many of them. They are more supported than any other engine including the small block Ford. So yes Olds is a great engine but that doesn't mean the SBC is a bad engine. That is just BS.

The sbc wasn't a very good engine through the 70's. Nearly all them got flat cams and worn valve guides or seals, not corrected till the early 80's. After that they became more reliable and finally matched the Olds V8 in long term reliability. Other than the nylon coated cam gear, even then, only some of them didn't come apart, the Olds 350 was super durable. I can still find good running Olds 350's in the 73 to 76 range, all original. Heck even the 77 to 90 windowed motors are good runners and mostly untouched.
