Looked and looked and then looked some more and couldn't find a definitive answer. '65 98 425 what color was the air cleaner originally? I've just ordered up correct pie plate decals and i would like the color to be correct. I've got it painted orange now, but I believe it may need to be red-orange. Thanks!

 

iirc, they used red or black to denote the high or low compression motors.
black was low comp.
red was high comp.

It's not red and not orange, but it is different than the engine color I have not painted the one in the pictures but the engine has been painted

Some parts houses call it Cheby red/orange

 

When I rebuilt and repainted my '65 425 I was told to use big-block ford red, when i matched it to the original paint it was the best match that I found.
