1968 olds / Oldsmobile 98 brake drum swap problems

I am having a problem. Will the drums from a 1967 olds 98 fit my 1968 olds 98? Issue is that I had someone replace my wheel cylinders on my convertible 68 98 and the drums got cracked so I found a (magical and almost impossible) scrap yard that had 3 98’s online but they sent me hubs and drums from a 67 (hopefully on accident). I had these shipped across the US but hoping that they would fit before I waste my time trying to make it work. I just want to cruise. Olds is clean and original Jade green convertible with green leather.

65-70 Ninety Eight rear drums are the same with four wheel drum brakes.

If your car has front disc brakes all 59-70 big cars use the same rear drums.

Parts book shows different part #s between left and right sides.

Front drum/hub assembly is the same 1965-1969 big cars and work on either side.

I have to admit, I've never been able to figure out why.

Different pn on fronts thru 1963 made sense because of the LH lug nut threads. Rears, I don't understand either.

OP, you should be fine with the 67 drum and hub.

Yeah, my point was why on the 64-up cars.

Thank you for the response. I did give the junkyard a call this morning and they told me that in their interchange parts book it says the drums from an olds 98 from 67-69 will work on my car.

From Nov 73 factory parts book:

Group 5.809
Part # 398466 RH, 398467 LH, rear drums, 1959-70 except F85, Jetstar 88, Toronado or police.

There are different part numbers for 68-69 Ninety Eight with disc brakes which used special 15" wheels. 398468/398469.

Hope it helps. Joe P says the Kanter drums work ok, just don't look like the belled and finned originals.

Whats the name & phone number of the scrap yard that you called please? I’m searching for rear brake drums for my 1967 Oldsmobile 98.
