Rocketraider mentioned the obscure Royale interior option in another thread. Not wishing to take that thread further off track, I have started this one.
Oldsmobile offered a Royale interior option for the 98 Luxury Sedan in 1967 and 1968. There is currently one for sale on Facebook Marketplace:
Here are some shots from my 68 Royale. The optional interior was black only, cloth and genuine leather, with embroidery, special door panels and glove box door nameplate.
I had never seen a 68 in person with the Royale option until I bought this one. Was an Oldsmobile company car (still has the Oldsmobile parking pass sticker on windshield) which explains why it is fully loaded. It’s a very original unrestored car. Love to cruise in it!
Thanks for the pics of one of the most luxurious and unknown Oldsmobiles ever made. I often wonder how many were produced.
I’m happy to know others are intrigued as well… there can’t have been many made, they didn’t feature it in the brochure like they did in 67, “black only interior color ” really limited the audience and the $131 additional cost didn’t help. This is the only rendering I have (from the color and trim selector book). Dave
What a beauty , just love it. 1968 is one of my favorite years.
Thank you! I’m into 68s too… currently have 3. Takes me back to the fall of 67… spying the new 68s hidden on the back lot of the local Oldsmobile dealership. I was 5, but the memory is as vivid as if it were yesterday!

I thought that I would share a little more on these rarely seen Royale LS Ninety Eights. The only place that identifies the car as a Royale is on the glove box door. Above shows the 1968 version. I’m not sure if the 67s got a Royale name plate as none show in the parts catalog. Since the 68s got updated name plates (design/font) I doubt the 67 Royales used the same as 68s. Here are some examples…Dave
Thank you…appreciate it! The big Oldsmobiles are excellent cars, very well built, powerful, smooth and very comfortable. Interesting that not many folks appreciate them….probably because they have never driven or ridden in one.
