The front bumper is really nice, very solid and the chrome is decent. The rear, not so much. It has some holes on the ends:

Did you try contacting tri-city plating in TN? They have a whole yard stacked with bumper cores and you will not be able to beat their replating prices.

Added some pictures of the underside, frame and floors are decent. Trunk floor has some rust in the corners.

Hi Mark, I sent you a PM

The gauges look the same as A-bodies.

The brake drums & or rotors would sell to a big car guy.

The same goes for the rear especially if it's anti-spin.

Mark, if you have time I can see a lot of parts that people might buy. Do you have time to pull much? Are you on Facebook? There's a group for full sized Olds over there. If your not I can post a link here for you if you'd like. Just let me know. John

I'm going to pull as much as I can this weekend, most of the interior and other small stuff. Likely all of the drums as well if they are decent. Can you suggest any other parts others may want?

I'm not on FB, and never will be but thanks for info.

The metal dash *****, such as headlights, wipers, those ***** will fit the A-body. The A-body came factory with plastic *****. I've had several requests for those over the years. The seat belts, another good item. Any lenses such as sidemarkers and tail lights. The rear bumper is rusted, is the front rotten too? If not try to pull that if you can. Speedometer cable and left front wheel dust cover. You already know about the brake drums, but the rear brake springs/parts that hold the shoes as well if they're in good shape. They are not easy to find. Probably not a posi, but if your not going to save the rear pull the inspection cover to check the ratio. The common ones were 2.56 and 2.78, if its 3.08 or 3.42 the ring and pinion may be marketable. If the brake master cylinder is one with bleeder valves pull it. Any of the trim pieces if you can remove them. License plate brackets. The gas pedal is held to the floor with two ball studs at the bottom. If you can get the pedal off without tearing the sockets that's a good item. If the floorboard isn't rotten you can unthread the studs too. Hood hinges/springs. The stainless along the door glass that has the fuzzy attached, those are an option. Not huge demand, but if you could remove them without too much trouble to the right person they would be desirable. The black kick panels if nice would be good.

Thanks for the detailed reply John. I've already had a request for the *****. Seat belts are nice. Sun visors are beautiful. All door panels are nice .Dash pad is excellent with the exception of someone drilled a hole on the underside to mount an aftermarket radio. Still soft and NO cracks anywhere. Rear seat is nice, but vinyl. Front is cloth, has some tears. Some lenses are ok, fronts are both cracked. Front bumper is nice. I had no idea the rear brake hardware was unavailable, but I'm not surprised. I believe the axle is a peg leg, I'll find out after I dig into it what the gears are. MC is an aftermarket. Pedals are real nice. I looked closer at the hood hinges, they look the same as an A body, is this correct? Also looks like the speedo is the same as an A body also? Kick panels are nice. I should be able to pull most of the trim. The windshield trim is siliconed on and will stay there unless someone really wants it. Back glass trim is nice.
The skirts both have rot holes in the middle, worth saving? What about the fuel tank, steering center link, A arms, etc? What about the wheels, they are steel 5x5 14", kind of an odd size, does anyone even want those? Should I bother to pull the column? Steering wheel is cracked in a few spots. AC box on firewall is also cracked in a few spots, should I mess with that?

Mark, that wheel size was used on full sized cars mid-1960's. I didn't think they still used them in 1968. Not a huge demand but those wheels are hard to find. I've not set them side by side but been told the hood hinges are the same as used on the A-body. You might try a search on the site to see what comes up discussing that. Uncracked dash pad, someone somewhere needs that! But it will be time consuming to pull and expensive to ship. If you have space to store it that would be a nice part to sit on until someone comes along asking about it. I'm unsure if the gauge pods will interchange with the A-body. I agree they look the same. Very little demand for seats. If the front were a power seat the drive unit would be good to pull. Arm rests and plastic behind them might be worth pulling to see what else they interchange with. I believe the plastic under the arm rests are 1968 only. Fuel tanks are hard to find. Since the car is rusty I'm not sure it would be solid or rotten as well. I'd pull the trim off the skirts and maybe mounting brackets if they're good. But not save the skirts themselves since they have rot. Over the years I've sold one A-arm for the full sized. Probably not worth the time to pull. I've not had any requests for used steering components. I will admit though I'm a packrat and hate to see usable parts go to the crusher. So if your on a roll dismantling and have the time I'll save anything that looks good. You can always throw it away or recycle it later if nobody comes along needing it. My 2 cents, hope it helps!

It helped a lot, thanks! I was surprised to see the wheels were 14". I did hold a loose 68 A body hinge next to the ones on the 98 and the look the same to me? I thought the same about the dash pad, but it is HUGE. I have no problem removing it but as you say safe storage may be a factor. If I throw it in the barn I might as well throw it in the fire fit, once the mice and cats get to it. I didn't figure there'd be a demand for the seats, but I may pull the head restraints. I'd love to just strip the car and squirrel everything away, but I too am a packrat and have no real room for this stuff. I know these aren't the most popular models but as you said someone out there needs these parts. The main reason I brought up the fuel tank and the centerlink, I have a 66 Buick Wildcat and those parts are one year only, and specific to that car. When I rebuilt my front suspension a few years ago I had to send my CL out to get rebuilt, as NOS nor aftermarket were available. I've been looking for a new fuel tank for a few years now. Not available new. Biggest problem is shipping, most places won't ship a used fuel tank. . I "think" the 98 tank is ok, won't know till I tear into it.

Skirts both have rot holes , you can see it in the first few pics.
I see you are somewhat local, interested in anything else from this car?

TTT, anybody needing these parts will know how hard they are to find. I don't know how much is still available or how long until it goes to the crusher. Mark, if your unsure about the price on anything I'd be happy to give you my thoughts on parts.

Sold some parts and would like to sell what's left.
Hood, dash and most of the interior is gone. Still a lot of good parts left, or a good candidate for the Demo guys.
$900 OBO or trade for an M20 Muncie (prefer a '68)

1968 Olds 98 front drums

Hello Mark,
I am definitely interested in the front drums and hubs as my car has 14 inch OEM wheels . Please contact me so we can discuss purchasing them. email address is: 6898ian@gmail.com
I have an identical car except mine is a 1968 Olds 98 2 door convertible. Could be interested in the driver and passenger front door inside panels, the front turn lenses, and all the air conditioning bits and pieces, including the brackets, from the firebox wall unit forward.
Possibly may want other stuff too.
Let's talk. I am in San Diego.
Thanks,
Ian
