Hello fellow Olds enthusiasts! I would like to introduce you to Marge the Barge, my 1963 Ninety Eight Convertible. I purchased her 3 weeks ago from a guy out in Nevada for $8500. She was really topless when I got her as there was only the frame! She is now sporting a new 'doo and is looking quite smart! She has been painted and the entire interior has been redone. She awaits a front end rebuild, a rebuilt carburetor and maybe some valve adjustment. She does run like the wind, plenty of power and oh so smooth on the highway!
Marge will be touring the highways and byways of Northern California with two enthused owners inside!

Update : Front end has been rebuilt, Carb Was rebuilt, Brake booster by "Booster Dewey" New brake shoes, Re attached the proper spinner hub caps, and gave her a good detailing. I still have bad lifters / cam and the transmission front seal leaks like a sieve.

 

Sounds like you've made some good progress. I wish I could work on my car, but it's coooooold up here! I'd like to see more pictures with the right wheel covers.

Yes they did have color highlights available on the 63, I actually found and own then stencil from 63 that would have been used to spray paint these at GM. Rare find I was thinking, so I had to get it...never actually used it as this was after I'd spent hours and hours masking and painting them...


Beautiful 98 By the way as well. Wedgewood mist I'm assuming as is the same as my 63 Starfire I have for sale. I have a local friend with the same 63 98 ragtop as well as a 63 98 Holiday Sport Coupe, very nice job on yours!

Yup- they work just like the other clip-on wheelcovers. Meaning they are a PITA. All for the sake of hiding a valve stem... I sure am glad they quit using them for 1964. 'Course then they came up with the bolt-on aluminum cap that everybody tore chunks out of because they didn't realise they were bolted to the wheel.

The 63 stencil seems to be fairly common as I've known several people who owned them. They had them for 58-62 also, but I have never heard of one for sale or borrow. I believe it was one of the dealer essential tools those years in case a wheelcover had to be painted.

 

The clips are easy, once you figure out how they attach to the rim, then how they attach to the cap. When I was younger I worked at a tire store busting tires. Trust me, you learned ALL kinds of goofy ways manufacturers attached hub caps!
