info needed....

Howdy men,
New member, first post! For the last 50 years years I have worked on and restored midyear Corvettes and old Impalas, which brings me to the reason I joined here. I need some info, but first a little background.
In 1965 I bought my first new car, an Impala SS, maroon with black/white interior, 300 hp, 4-speed. Kept it three years and sold it. As it drove away I knew I had screwed up. Ten years ago I started looking for it's replacement, found one in Florida four years ago. I removed the worn out un-original 327 and powerglide, replaced them with a 300 hp engine and Munce wide ratio tranny.
The inner door panels on my SS have a red reflector down near the bottom of the panel. I remember back in the mid 60's seeing some GM cars (Olds-Pontiac?) that used a LIGHTED red housing set into the inside of the lower door. This light came on when the door was opened or the courtesy light switch was turned.
I want to add this feature to my SS but don't know a source of even the make/model these were used on. Help me out here, tell me where to go to get these parts. Thanks! Bill

Dont have a picture but a light was used on the 66 Starfire on the lower door panels. I may have one to get a picture when I get home from work...

My '70 Cutlass Supreme had a red rectangular reflector on the lower rear part of the door panel, but it was just a reflector, not a light. I don't know of any models that had a lighted housing (not saying there weren't any).

oldsmanic,
Thanks for the reply. If a picture is to much trouble just list the outer diminsions of the light. Do you know if this piece has been reproduced? Where do I go for a catalog? Thanks for getting me started! Bill

I found the 1 light I have and it has 2 lenses one red and one white, the red one is missing. I would think the pontiac GP would use a similar one, maybe Toronado etc. I know of no reproduction parts. I still will work on the picture...

Here is the only one I am familiar with, dont know if this is what you remember.

Oldsmaniac,
Great info! I now have a idea where to start looking. Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix is 400 miles away and I have relatives in the area who can do some scouting for me. Bill

I think most of the "high end" cars, like the "98", Toronado, Cadillacs, Electra 225, etc., had the lights in the doors.
I'd think you if you could find one of these in a junk yard, you'd find the lights you want.

Guys,
Many thanks to all who answered. I now have some idea what to look for. Only problem is there are so few of these cars in junkyards any more. I know of only one yard in the Albuquerque area with older cars. I will be looking there soon! Bill
