Smile 78 Toronodo XS

A guy wants to trade his 78 Toronado XS for my truck. The Toro has 17k miles and looks pretty sweet. I know there were only 2400 made of this model. How much do you think it's worth?

I want to resell it to someone who could appreciate it more. I was born after this car was made. Don't know much about them.

How much is the truck worth?
Pics of the XS and truck will help determine price.

Picture

Here's a picture of the 78 Toronado. The value of my truck has nothing to do with the value of the car.

That is a very cool looking car, I cant say i remember ever seeing that back glass on one like that. The way its connected with the rear side glass. Were all 78's like that? The body lines look unique to me also, has it been customized? I dont know the value but i like the car. Do you have more pics? The fender lines near and on the door look "Lincoln" ish.

Xs

The back glass only comes in the XS model which there were only 2453 made. I'm guessing there's less than 1000 in existence that survived.

The XS does not look like it has a vinyl top. All XS cars had vinyl tops. Does the back window have mldgs around the window?

I believe it does have chrome molding around the back window. He said it is a custom paint job and everything else is original. I haven't seen the car in person yet. I might go tomorrow.

Are you sure it's realy only 17K miles? Would somebody really spend that much on a custom paintjob on such a low mileage car? Also, it's missing a fair amount of mouldings.

I'm always skeptical with low mileage cars that have had obvious work done to them. It can definitely be legit but just be cautious is all I'm saying. Go look at it and take LOTS of detailed pics and then post them on here for us to look over. You'll get very honest feedback from people on here.

The wrap around back window is correct and exclusive to the XS or XSR models. I believe I see the moonroof in the picture which would also be correct for the XS.

new paint - beware of underlying rust.
Inspect carefully like on a hoist
bitchin' ride if it's solid

Truck or car

It is easy to sell a truck. Finding a buyer for a customized 78 Toro , not so easy.

I suggest buying it to drive (if you like it). If you want to try to flip a car I suggest looking for a Camaro, Mustang; or better yet, a Cutlass. Not many people have their eye out of a 78 Toronado SX.

All Toro XS's were eqipped with a thick padded top to conceal crude window conversion cuts. There wasn't any provision for window trim moldings.

Update

Checked out the Toronado XS. It's actually in pretty good shape. The sucker runs very smooth. Every piece is there.

The vinyl top was taken off when the car was painted. He spent $3000 on the paint job. It was very well done.

No rust. The only issues were small. There was a inner door armrest piece that was rubbed off, the back outstrip molding on the back window needs repair, and the sunroof switch doesn't work.

There's an 8 track player in mint condition. He had two cases of 8 track tapes in the trunk.

From what I can see in the pics, the steering wheel woodgrain looks kinda chewed up and the passenger's door panel/armrest is really rough too which should not be for such low miles. I would check the plugs, wires, hoses etc. Lots times really low mile cars will still have the originals. Look for obvious after market items under the hood, etc. I'm not convinced yet.

The sunroof switch pops right out IF that's the problem. Pop the little round cap out (next to the switch) and open and close the roof manually with an allen key to make sure it moves ok and that the cables are ok....these are not easy parts to find if they're bad. I can't see why something like that switch would be bad.

Post as many pics and details as you can.
