Hello Classic Oldsmobilers,
I'm a junior journalism and history student at Colorado State University and for the last 5 years I have been driving my 1972 F-85 as an everyday driver. It runs great, although it's a love-hate relationship what with an awesome Rocket 350 and lousy gas mileage.
So far I've had the seats reupholstered in vintage fabric recycling the original vinyl sides, put on a new vinyl roof, had the brake drums reshaped (they had been warped), and just this past December I had the 3-speed automatic transmission rebuilt after 108,000 miles.
Of course, my car still has some problems: the original paint is starting to fade and is dinged in so many places it's not funny, the front bumper has been dented inward, the air conditioner needs to be replaced, and there's rust in the bottom corners of all the quarter panels.
I'm joining this forum now because as I go to car shows and as I prepare for my career I realize that in order to restore my car to pristine condition I need money and above all experience, of which I have precious little of either. So, I wish to soak up your guys' knowledge in these matters and hopefully in the future I can put what I learn to good use.
