Looking for information on where to sell an antique vehicle.

My father-in-law has a 1938 Oldsmobile, Business Coupe that has been in his family since his aunt purchased it new, she then passed it down to him.

The car has 60,000 original miles and has always been garaged. Everything on this car is original.

At this time in his life he is thinking about selling it, but does not know where to begin as far as getting an appraisal or even where to advertise it.

If anybody has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yea! Another one from Kansas. Post up some pics here and maybe someone can help you with a price or a buyer. Ebay and craigslist are the only suggestions I have. I'm sure others will chime in.

 

Ebay is probably a good place to look for interest but I wouldn't throw it on there with a no reserve auction. Set a solid reserve price. It won't cost you much to test the water. I have almost the same situation coming with my Dad's 36 Ford 3-Window Coupe.
I was raised in Hutchinson, used to go drag Douglas in Wichita from time to time in my 68 Z28. What a great car the Z28 was to have as a teenager, just a 302! - Steven

I like the e-bay idea, put a high reserve on it and see what the interest will be. you may have to do it a couple of times but it will give you an idea of the value for free.

 

Mousefan: You might give Patrick G Lind (517-882-4072) Model Year Advisor for 1938 Olds Six Cylinder cars and ask for his assistance in determining the value of the car. You could place an ad in Journey With Olds (magazine of the Olds Club of America) with pictures for a fee (or join OCA, and do it for free) and might find an Oldsmobile lover of that particular vintage. Sounds like a neat car. Please, post pictures.

I would try National Antique Olds Club (http://www.antiqueolds.org/) and the Antique Automobile Club of America (http://aaca.org/). You may have to join but the dues are pretty cheap. There are probably people who can give you an idea of value. Appraisals for the most part are worthless in my opinion. Another place to try would be placing an ad in Hemmings Motor News. Post some pictures and good luck on selling the car. Heck, somebody on here might buy it.
