I was able to pull a nice 68 2 Door Delmont out of a neighbours garage. My question is the car hasn't run in a few years is it worth spending some time and money on ? It's a 455 Rocket motor. I will try and post a few pics. Thanks Phil

 

If you really enjoy the car and fixing it as a hobby I would say it would be "worth it."

If your looking to fix it up and resell it then I would say that its not "worth it" mostly because its not that collectable of a model and the economy hasnt been kind lately.

 

I agree completely. The sure fire money makers are the 442s, Hurst Olds's, etc. A Delmont is a sweet car though, especially one of the late sixties models. I always liked them. Welcome to CO.

I really like the big 60's cars and the 88 is one of the nicest looking from that time period, but then again I am not a mainstream kind of guy as you can see by my two Olds. Its cool to be different. You can also cruise at high speed in comfort.

 

Boy that's a beauty. Production of the 1968 Delmont 88 455 two-door hardtop (called Holiday Coupe) was 13,759. This compares to 20,080 Delmont 455 4-door sedans, 18,112 4-door hardtops, and 2,843 convertibles. There were also all of these body styles available with the 350 as well with larger production numbers for each except for the convertible, which was about the same.

 

Thanks for the Info Guys. The more I look at this the more I like it. I really like not having a door post, when you roll all the windows down it looks like there is enough room to fly a small plane through the inside !

Pretty nice looking ride! Dosen't look like a big project at hand. Just pull basic maint and you probably want to look at new tires, most manufacturers highly recomend replacement after 10yrs.

We had some warm weather here today so I had a chance to work on the Delmont. It needed a new cap, rotor, points and wires and she fired up and ran for the first time in about 5 years ! A few more checks and then a road test. Phil

 

Nice looking car! In my opinion worth keeping around.

I do like this about my 88 also. The bench seat is more comfortable than our couch I think, and much faster!

 

I'd be proud to own it. When I first read your intro post it sounded like it might have been the typical worn out car. But it looks incredible. More pics; front, back trunk interior, engine.... I'd keep it!!!

I really miss my 1968 Delmont convertible. Should never have sold it, and I should have bought it back 2 different times when the chance came during the 10 years. Oh well.

Mine also had a 455 in it. A cool cruiser for sure.

Looks like most of the paint is original. Maybe a little repair work around wheel wells. I posted a for sale add on my local Craigslist and the phone is ringing off the hook ! Still not sure if I want to keep it or sell it.

If the car hasn't been driven in a few years, check all the rubber (tires, hoses & belts). Drain the tank and add fresh gas. I would check the brakes too...but if you don't want to get cold and dirty, drive slow around the neighborhood first.

 

Congrats, looks like a really clean car. I agree, with what others said, don't sell it. And rims would definitely make it pop.

 

That car has the Delta 88 interior. It may well have been an option on your Delmont. The Delmont interior had a different pattern and no armrest.
