Looking for a 442 for TV

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum so let me introduce myself. I direct the Flashbacks that are part of the show MuscleCar on Spike TV's Powerblock. If you don't watch the show, the Flashback is a profile on a classic muscle car. Last season we featured a '64 442, and we've profiled other Olds cars like a '70 W-31 and a '71 442 and a couple of Hurst/Olds. Now, I'm looking to do a feature on a 442 from '65-'69. The basic criteria is that it has to look pretty much how it came originally, inside and out...I guess you would call it stock-appearing. Preferably it needs a 4-speed and a bright original style paintjob. The more rare options the better. Engine doesn't have to be numbers matching but must be era correct. I am mostly interested in featuring a '66 w/ tripower or a W-30 optioned '67, but am open to other models.

Our studio is located near Nashville, Tennessee. You would need to bring it here for a day of shooting, where you and only you will be driving the car around. The 3-minute segment will be devoted entirely to your car. I'd like to shoot this in the fall and it will air sometime in early '11, the start of our next season. Please email me at jhutcheson@rtmtv.com if you are interested or have more questions. I don't check the forum as often as my email, so email is the best way to get a hold of me.

Oh, and I know what you might be thinking...is this a scam? Well, you can call the number below and check us out. It's for real. Maybe you are thinking...Nashville, that's a long way away for me. But think of it as like going to a car show, but instead of showing off your car to a couple thousand people, a couple million people will see how great it is on national TV.

Thanks,
James Hutcheson

Music City Rockets Olds club is based in Nashville area. They'll be a good starting point.

I think all any of us here would ask is that you get a good, non-buggered example that is either a very good original or correctly restored- not some later fussbudget owner's idea of what is correct.

You also should consider that back in the day of real muscle cars, loaded examples were the exception and not the rule, even for an Oldsmobile. I tend to view heavily-optioned W30 with suspicion, because it makes me think the owner or restorer added a lot of the stuff during restoration without considering option compatibility- in other words, stuff has been added that could not be ordered in combination with W30.

Now if you want an unusual Olds muscle car, get with Kurt Shubert (wmachine here on CO). He has a 1965 4-speed Jetstar I, which is to say a 370 horse big car with attitude. It's red, it's nice, and it would shed light on a very overlooked part of Oldsmobile high-performance. More to the point, the car is correct and its owner/caretaker is as knowledgeable an Olds guy as you will ever find.

"Tri-Power" was never used by Olds or by anyone other than Pontiac, who owned the copyright.

Olds advertising called the '66 L-69 option "Tri-Carb" not to be confused with "J-2"used for the 3 x 2 option in '57-'58.

Except for Corvette Guys. Google "tri power corvette" and you'll see what I mean.

Welcome to CO. I imagine we could scrape up a couple of applicants for your review. Good luck in the effort.

Hi!

If you're interested in a pristine (complete frame-off resto, incl all tags, stickers & "original" paint daubs), slide on over to www.ultra-high-compression.com!
Jasen has probably the best you'll ever see! See attachment!

Which link shows an example of the Chevrolet Division's use of it?
