My name is Jay. I have been into old cars since I was a little boy. I am 41. I am a copier repairman and my hobbies are classic cars and fishing, in that order. I have a few classic cars. I have a '57 Chevy 150 model 2 door post with a 327 and 4 speed. A '53 Ford truck with a 305/350. My favorite is my '42 Chevy Aerosedan, it is Olds powered with a '74 350/400 combo. I was just given an engine by a rancher, it is a '66 Olds 425 out of a Toronado. I am just tearing it down to evaluate and it has a forged steel crank and the big valve heads. It was a 385 horse engine with 470 ft lbs and it will be going into my '42 Chevy.

You Chevy Aerosedan is very similar to my 48 Olds series 76 2 door sedan. They are cool cars. That 425 will really move it along. I am installing a 455 in mine. Post a few pictures so we can see your project.

I am in Eastern Oregon, Baker City right off of I-84. I will post pics of my other projects when I figure it out. I have a '56 Buick special hardtop in my shop and a '57 Chevy 150 sedan I have had for 20 years, it has a 327/4 speed and is otherwise mostly stock. The truck is a '53 Ford F100, it was a basket case. I am so pumped about my 425 olds, I have a bad piston. Anyone know where to get 1 standard bore piston?

 

I met a guy a few years ago and touch base with him on and off, I believe he's near Baker City. His name is Mike, and he and his wife have a 1969 Cutlass or 442 convertible. Then I believe he also has a Vista Cruiser wagon. Plus some other interesting old cars. Do you know him? John

I have been to the HAMB. I also know Mike in Baker, he is a nice guy. I haven't seen him in awhile, but his Vista Cruiser is nice. He also has a cool '56 Ford cabover he built. He had pics on Rat Rods Rule I think.

I have the same engine in my garage, waiting to go in my 67 Olds Vista Cruiser wagon. I bought the car on Ebay, a 66 toronado, with the express purpose of using that engine with its forged crank, and 921 lifter bores. Good score, you will be happy with this motor, but if you haven't worked on an olds before, find yourself a copy of Bob Gerometta's book Oldsmobile Engine Modification and Tuning Guide V8 Engines from 1964-1978 Wild about cars.com

I caught it here in Eastern Oregon up at Hell's Canyon on the Snake river. I would be glad to "show " you where if you ever get up this way. It is my biggest steelhead yet, just under 30 inches and I mean barely under. I am too honest for my own good. I also catch some real nice channel cats on the Snake in a different place. Biggest one of those for me is 15 pounds and 30 inches. I have a boat for the summer fishing , come on up!
